Nightmare. That needs attending to.
There's something of the horror movie about that photo of your garden. Some weird perspective involving the weathered fence and gate...the single tree and the misaligned stone...pet cemetery... .

I'd make a theme of it with some suitable planting:

OMFG!!!
Has anyone just seen that deeply sad fker on Gardeners' World? No, on this occasion I'm not talking about Monty Dong - though I agree with Nigel's feeling of disdain for his master's turfing efforts. No, I'm talking about the clearly Aspergic chap who mows at 5mm and sweeps off the morning dew every day. I'm convinced his poor wife isn't getting it.
Please tell me that even the most enthusiastic contributors on this thread don't even come close to that chap?!

Ah I thought I recognised that lawn, he was runner up in the Mail on Sunday's 2014 Best Lawn competition.I'm not at that stage yet Although I will award myself beard points for spotting (before the badge close up) the Ransomes Certes manual mower with its distinctive rear roller pattern.
Dear world,
If I ever enter a Daily Mail "best lawn" competition, I hereby demand that somebody shoots me. Please make it a clean shot, right between the eyes.
(But not while I'm standing on the lawn, obviously - the blood will cause a dead patch.)
Thanks.
Edited to add: Wait a minute, he was runner up?! So that means there's someone even more mentalist than him?

duly noted. A lawn competition plus The Mail - that's going full suburbia, and there's no coming back from full suburbia.(But not while I'm standing on the lawn, obviously - the blood will cause a dead patch.)
Thanks.

Oddly the winning lawn looked far more normal:I don't even want to enter the mind of a Mail lawn competition judge to work that one out.

Really pleased with mine this year - been using Evergreen to keep it looking like this but the downside is how quickly it grows.
That's lovely, and in noticeably finer condition than your neighbour's lawn which ordinarily would be considered to look pretty good. Have you noticed them furtively watching your lawn care techniques recently? They're not Mail on Sunday readers with a penchant for competitions are they? It's worth giving the edges a little more irrigation as they'll dry out much faster up against the dark slate and be careful not to scalp them by dropping the mower off the edge.
Finally starting to look presentable. It looked OK earlier in the year but it was full of moss.
I used 4 in 1 (which I won't use again) and scarified to remove the moss after a couple of weeks. Overseeded and fertilised and used lots of water as we had no real rain in May & June.
All of a sudden, it has started shooting up and turned a lovely deep green.
I had a slight accident with the fertiliser spreader on the smaller patch of grass and the yellow bits are where the daffodils come up.

Haha thanks very much guys. As it turns out, I actually laid turf on top of the turf that came with the house. I didn't even know it was possible but my told me I could do it and it's turned out fine.
I actually cut and strim my neighbour's side when I do my own but I've given up on the Evergreen this year as they now pay someone to cut their front and back grass so it wouldn't really have enough time to take effect. Even when I did use it, it didn't really have a significant impact on the weeds.
My neighbours must think I have OCD as I actually go round the edges of the lawn with scissors lol
edit: thanks jagnet for the tips re. the edges.

My lawn is looking awful. It's only 2 years old. Last year it was lovely and green and stripey . This year, it is hardly growing, aside from stalks of grass that shoot up every foot or so. It's been fed, aerated etc..
Anyway.. I'm going to try more and more water, but in the meantime, tonight I went out and noticed hundreds of these buggers all over it. Several per square foot. They are about an inch long . Are these causing my lawn problems?

That looks as though you have a major issue with slugs, and frequent watering is only helping them.On an established lawn watering less often but for longer is better for the grass and keeps the surface drier for longer discouraging slug activity. Water only when the grass becomes less springy, and in the morning is the best time to do so rather than at night.
Given that you have so many slugs, I'd apply a nematode treatment such as Nemaslug to kill off the majority and cut back on the watering.
The grass itself looks healthy. There's plenty of thatch developing suggesting vigorous growth, it's just that the slugs are eating most of it. Come the autumn it'll be a good idea to scarify to get rid of the thatch and then over seed to help thicken the turf.
I'm watching Gardeners World on iplayer. I used to be one of the cool kids...
Been following many tips on here, honorary thanks to Mr Jagnet - and purchased The Book, so the lawn is looking better than it has for years, except for the dog piddle patches, but that Miracle grow Patch Magic stuff is doing the trick with that, keeping an eye on here to see when to consider overseeding, lawn sand etc. Quite rewarding really,
