Ah, now we're getting there, I was wondering why we were getting pics of the backs of bricks - I was just adding to my post as you posted up, please see edit.
So the question is; is the pointing good enough for a garden wall?

I had my garden walls pointed a few years ago by some other guys and no lumps in that smile I've looked at almost every house and wall in Fulham and I cant see any that look like our side/road walls with added sandy lumps. Re the main house they've done quite a few around here and general look the best out the ones re pointed.

Well it obviously didn't last very long if they're being done again smile

So why is it called rendering then and not just plastering.
Rendering is applying render.

Plastering is applying plaster.

Plasterers do both and generally screed too.
yes

I have 2 mates that are plasterers.

I also did plastering and rendering when I was a youngster.
The first house I owned had a damp problem and the lower metre of the entire house had to be replastered with a mix of sand, cement and lime, I don't remember what type of sand it was except I did the labouring and I couldn't keep up with the plasterer and even as a fairly fit and healthy 26 year old it nearly killed me.

The pictures show both front and back of the bricks on the road side wall, they've done the same type of pointing on both sides so anyone who walks past can see the lumpy pointing, the staining at the bottom of the wall is from road salt. The side walls are only pointed on our side and not the neighbors.

are you going to make them an offer for what you think it's worth?

If they come over and talk to us then I'm sure we would come to a compromise! As it is they're refusing to a meeting and are getting threats and derogatory remarks via phone calls unless we pay right away!
