Roller Garage Doors - Which make is the best?
Discussion
A subjective question, I know - but there's a wide range on the market.
The design of our garage pretty much rules out any other type of automatic door, hence going down the roller route. I'd rather pay a extra for one that is well insulated, reliable and quiet (one will be used everyday) than go for a low cost item that is 'nearly' as good. Grateful for any recommendations! Also, a good garage door supplier in Herts region.
Thanks.

I have just had a new door fitted on my garage renovation project and was going with Hormann but a couple of suppliers both said they weren't the best but SWS were, I put it down to bias from the first but after the second I looked into it, I ended up getting an SWS seceuroglide Excel, very impressed with it.

I had a Seceuroglide fitted over six years ago, very impressed,no problems.I do a lot of part time work from my double garage so it's up and down many times a day.Still as good as new.
Two of my neighbours have had their Seceuroglide doors much longer and they are as satisfied as I am.

Thanks for all your help guys/girls. Will spend some time investigating SWS and Hormann. I wonder if I'm the only person on the planet excited at the prospect of spending hours reading about garage doors...
You're not alone. I've recently been doing the same as settled on two SWS doors I failed Securoglide on a useless salesman who spun me BS and didn't answer e-mails. So I got a Hormann from a reputable local outfit. It works, but roller doors are bit clunkier than sectional doors (the benefit being no runners to obscure roof space).
The Hormann range is also stupidly complex, with a multitude of options that are poorly explained in their literature. I thought I was getting a remote control that would tell me from the house if the garage door was open or not - but no - it only works with some models.

It'd be easy to do that with this type of 'salesman'. The Hormann range is also stupidly complex, with a multitude of options that are poorly explained in their literature. Yes, it was a pity - the company you buy it from/who installs it is important. No doubt the product itself is fine, but the salesman was a 1980s throwback who just slagged off the competition and told me his stuff was best. It doesn't work in the internet age because consumers are rather better informed.
Assuming the two makes are effectively equal, I'm glad I went with the local family business - and when I accidentally messed up the remote code, they came out and fixed it.

Have anyone seen the Vertico version of SWS doors working?
They slide from left to right and go around inside the garage wall.
looked into it, a number of caveats did pop up (distance to the wall, lost space,...) in short, would never contemplate it unless you really can't have a normal one. They slide from left to right and go around inside the garage wall.

I've had a quick look around SWS site and while I can see a maximum width for the Verticos I can't seem to find a max for the roller doors?
I don't want two separate doors with a pillar in the middle. I just want a big wide open space.
