It's about 5.5m I think. It's worth shopping around for a price. I'm using a local firm that's been going 30+ years. 7 year warranty on everything and they were cheaper than supply only prices on the internet and it means I've not got the hassle of fitting.

Hmmm fair point.

I've had a quick look around SWS site and while I can see a maximum width for the Verticos I can't seem to find a max for the roller doors?

I don't want two separate doors with a pillar in the middle. I just want a big wide open space.
How wide? For sectional doors the width can easily go to 5m and up, regular "one piece" gates usually somewhat less roller doors however don't look like they've got the strength to go that wide.

Another good point.

it has just been suggested I could just fit a false wall fitted infront of where the door slides around.

I was hoping to put some sort of ramp/lift in, so the up and over sectional doors are out.

Vertical sectionals exist as well, and they go quite wide iirc.
I just had a problem with the lost space, and you can put another "wall" in front of them to have them slide in, but including the door you've lost another foot of usable space.

I have a Easyfitgaragedoor roller door item which was priced fairly cheaply but quality appears ok in the last couple of years i've had it installed. If your on a tight budget and handy at DIY then worth a look.

I am currently getting quotes on a garage door for my extension - having had a few options, and seeing the recommendations from here and also the fitters that have been round, then I think I am leaning towards the SWS roller too... Looks smart, secure and durable, so seems to have it all, and it isn't cheap, but not that different to other branded makes from what I've seen so far.

A very recent SWS Excel installed (this month) and it's brilliant.

But even more so when you think that it was a fellow PH member that helped me source it. He is called Doorman on here but he runs http://www.prestigegaragedoors.co.uk/ I contacted them via PH and he said I was too far for him. Normally I would have thought that would be the end of the conversation. But on this occasion Simon didn't give up. I dealt with Prestige over email and they in turn got SWS, the company, itself to come around, survey and install the door for me. Not bad for a company that doesn't deal with end customers! And to top it all, I got a fully installed price far cheaper than 4 other local companies.

Thanks - have decided to go with an SWS SeceuroGlide door following the recommendations on here (and now having seen one in the flesh).

On a related note, do these doors ever need servicing? confused

I can't imagine them running for years and years without a bit of preventative maintenance to keep them working smoothly.

Just a final update on this one. A pair of SWS roller doors now installed, thanks to the excellent (and speedy) service from PH member Doorman: http://www.prestigegaragedoors.co.uk/ Thanks for pointing me in Simon's direction. If you're reading this because you're looking at getting a roller door, I thoroughly recommend him.

Out of interest, are either of these better for insulation values than the other? We're about to move into a new house which already has electric up and over doors, along with a huge gap above each one. I suspect i'm wasting my time in thinking about insulating the back of them unless I can plug the gaps plus the extra weight of the insulation probably isn't good for the motors.

We should be in the house in August but i'm gonna do the whole thing over the winter, insulation, heating, tiled floor etc. but the main thing I really want to get right is the heating and insulation first as I want it to become as much a useable room over the winter as possible whilst i work on the car, and use it as a gym.

Well to be fair, we self-installed (take a brave pill first) as we are well outside the area; but the pre-purchase advice and help with the final commissioning was superb.

I'm about to extend the front of my wooden garage by a metre and want a roller door, so going on all the comments on here I'm going for a compact half hood black Seceuroglide door. I'm going to have to order my door before the extension is complete so I don't have to wait for the door to arrive, I know the drive through opening so hopefully in a month it'll be fitted and working.
