My neighbour has a sycamore and it's a nightmare. The bloody propeller seeds are a wonder of evolution and bloody go everywhere. I could have a sycamore forest in my lawn if I didn't spend hours pulling the newly sprouting trees up.

But I wouldn't dream of cutting down someone else's tree. That's outrageous.

I'd go for the night time raid with hammer and some copper nails. hehe

In his kneecaps? Yeees, that would certainly stop him doing it again.

it's only tree and a small one at that. What's the point of making a big deal about it?

at the end of our garden , we have two mature ash trees that are well over 50' both have been checked by tree surgeons and are healthy . when we bought the house there are covenants to say we are not allowed to remove the trees or hedges . Its great privacy that benefits neighbours on both sides of the fence.

At the very corner of our garden there's an old lady who lives alone. Last summer I was cutting the lawn when I heard relatives of the old lady trimming the hedges their side of the fence . Fine they are entitled to do this .However I then overheard presumably the daughter in law say "well we will have to cut down these trees to get more light for gran " .

I thought it better to have a chat . So very politely I introduced myself and mentioned that the trees were protected and were on my property . If it was a question of cutting back branches to create more light , I did not have a problem as long as it was done properly .
to cut a long story short , I ended up going next door to see what it was like and if we could agree which branches . As it turned out it was just one very thick branch about 10' 25' up that was causing the issue.

The Son agreed to help , out came my chainsaw and ladders and thirty minutes later problem solved everyone happy .................mind you I did take my trailer round to use the wood for bbq's .

Op I would certainly go round and have a chat , but take a witness , if your neighbour came onto your property , he doesn't sound a very amicable fellow so best be cautious

good luck.

went over had chat he said he knew nothing about it, i said ok - bit strange. But couldnt prove anything. Just told him if he wants to trim the tree's in future then just need to ask. Which he then went bright red. More the cheek of it but not fussed about a sycamore/weed.

so what? Maybe he was just shocked that a neighbour could accuse him of such a thing. Many people blush in stressful situations but it doesn't mean they are guilty of anything. I thought in teh UK one is innocent until proven guilty? No wonder I left years ago!

i didnt accuse him but as his is the only house there then it was obviously him.

Just been in the garden and seen him leaning over and chopping hedge of the neighbour that backs onto him. Anyway it may or may NOT of been him. Prob was..
