I've got £500 budget for a half decent shed, 7x9ish size. Are there any decent ones out there for that sort of money? Failing that what sort of money would building one cost? I know it'll mean buying a nail gun smile However I've a decent compressor so even a decent branded one isn't that expensive.

Anyone built a shed and can give indications of cost? I have half looked at building an oak framed one in 75x75mm framework that seemed to come in at about £500 for materials.

If you have the time and inclination, then nothing can eclipse the feeling of a job well done.

Assuming one is handy with tools and the use of.

Clearly if you have time and basic skills, you could build something better for the money than you could buy. We got a 5 x 13 (similar area to yours) tantalised one from "beast sheds" a few years back - great quality, looks good & solid even now, but back then it was (IIRC) just over £1K.
If you DIY, you can use some breathable/waterproof membrane to make it even better, and indeed size things to include any shelves etc to your spec.

Given spare time, I would recommend DIY smile

I priced up the cost of materials a while ago. I couldn't build one for the same price as my local shed would supply.

I think I would only build one if I wanted a bespoke shape/size.

I'm building one at the moment, I think it works out at 22'x 14'. Depending on the look you want to achieve and the construction you need, you should be easily able to build a 7'x 9' for less than 500. I am building mine from 2.25" square timbers with overlap boards, and a concrete base, I've spent about £1400 on materials. I think if I were to build it the size you want, with a wooden base, £400 would cover it.

Where are you pricing your wood from?

Buy a reasonable one and then strengthen it with extra fixings and bracings, best balance of cost, time and result for my money. I have two 8x6 shiplap ones, one I bought over 20 years ago, the other is probably closer to 40 years old, they are semi-hidden at the bottom of the garden, they don't really need to withstand airstrikes or a dinosaur standing on them. Upgrade the felt to the heaviest grade though.
