I have just had a camera system installed with sensors by the gates. If anyone crosses the gates then our mobiles are sent messages and we can also view the footage via our mobiles at any time and any where.

Not the cheapest but gives peace of mind
What did you go for as that sounds spot on for my requirements?

Company called Quantum Security in Hemel Hempstead. Not sure where you are in the country but give Mark a call he is a really good guy and I'm sure he will either assist or head you in the right direction.

We also have an intercom system that diverts to our mobiles when were out so any one at the gates doesn't realise your not in.

we use the swann systems.

costco/screwfix do them and they are surprisingly good. the phone app is a great addition to the system.

+1 - easy to install and don't listen to the numpties who cant install the aps, if you call Swann support they are very helpful and will get you on your way. Has run faultlessly on my phones for the last 18 months and everything works as it should. The PTZ cameras are great.
I just caught two stheads throwing rocks through 4 windows on an empty rental of mine using the swann pro series stuff from maplin. They were throwing them from a fair distance but when the police took a look they instantly said they knew the chap. Still waiting for his arrest but i fear it will jut be a slap on the wrist.

So much for deterrent though, the big CCTV signs didn't do their job either.

The picture quality past 10 meters isn't fantastic but its good enough if anyone approaches the house.

I was sick of mindless vandalism, empty properties are magnets for knobheads.

Looks good. How big a hole to drill through fascia for the cable? Do the the plugs come off for fitting?

......If you don't scrub images after say a month, don't they go blank ? How do you restore them ?

I think about 3cm diameter will do it for the hole. I didn't have a hole saw so used the biggest drill bit and then just filed as much as required.
I just got the App and can watch them on my iPad now too.
Very happy - intact, just ordered another one to complete the house parameter.

looks better on the TV with HD, this is just a screenshot from my iPad

Is that a manhole cover out the back of your conservatory?

No, it's a mat

Good.
But get a nicer mat - you never know when drones might fly overhead taking picture, and it looks like a rusty manhole cover from up here.

The quality on their demo looked good for sure. And enlarging an area on playback, plus the alerts and motion sensor is grown up stuff.
Just need to exchange on the new house.

Yer, the demos are all good.
I think I need to do a bit of focusing now to get it perfect but very happy so far.
