After a little advice,

Going to paint this wooden frame in gloss black to match the front door, I have just sanded it and filled any marks in the wood so will be sanding again in an hour or so then a wipe down with white spirit.

question is will this need an undercoat ?

stuff will be from Homebase as its my only local place. Was looking at Dulux Weathershield Black - Exterior One Coat Gloss Paint as they have this in stock.

They also have this Sandtex Primer - Dark Grey as an exterior undercoat.

Is this necessary or will the one coat be ok on its own.

Hopefully going to get it done today but if it needs undercoat it may have to wait a bit as I think it will rain a bit tomorrow.

What do you think.

See if you can find a little tub of quick dry primer undercoat. It'll need something to put black gloss onto rather than what you have there.

Quick dry primer undercoat first... it'll be dry in 30 mins. Apply a second coat to make sure it's all covered.

Leave until dry, and then gloss over.

thanks for the info.

Quick drying undercoat at Homebase seems to take minimum of 2 hr before re coating but I could get the undercoat done today then paint it next week end
