I need to rearrange my postal deliveries - they currently come through the front door but if I'm not here the dog is partial to "opening" items for me.

Basket on the back of the door is not an option (hall is too narrow and the basket would prevent the door opening fully). I could stick a postbox on the wall outside but I'm not overly keen on those. We have a semi-integral garage, the outer half of which is single-skin brick. Can I remove one brick to use as a postbox, with a suitable fitting on the outside, without the wall collapsing?

There's things like this-

A missing brick shouldn't cause issues really.

I'd say so, as long as you pack out the sleeve with some sand and cement to support the surrounding bricks. I'd use a pretty dry mix and just ram it in with a thin piece of timber until solid.

Yes - assuming it's a standard wall one brick is absolutely no problem.

I've recently removed 1200mm of bricks to insert a lintol whilst I supported the roof above, I couldn't be bothered with a strong boy & decided to risk it as I wasn't that bothered if it fell down - it was fine.

I have a stair gate about a metre in front of mine. My lab would often retrieve the mail and then hide it to play with later which was especially annoying for missed delivery cards. He was also partial to opening the door and taking himself out for walkies if I missed our usual time.

Would it be more convenient to install an outside postbox on the wall near the door.

Yes, that's our current workaround but it does get in the way when you come home!

Yes, definitely the quicker and easier option and I may well end up doing that, I just wondered about the wall option as it would be a neater (and more secure?? For the post, anyway) option.
