I feel like I've just gone 12 rounds with the missus in the bedroom (no pictures) which sadly I haven't.

Has anyone added air con to their bedroom?

It's now started to get uncomfortable.

I had one of those portable things where you stuck the tube through the window, it was brilliant apart from the noise. I would however opt for the split type units if I was doing it again though. Costso were selling a DIY kit the other year for about £400, they are fairly simple to fit if you are a competent DIYer. However the instructions told you to vent the gas off to bleed it after you piped the two halves together and apparently this is against the law, but if you can live with the fact you may kill several kittens then hey ho.

I had a Mitsubishi split until fitted in the bedroom about 8 years ago. Bought it from an A/C company on ebay. I did the donkey work of hanging the units on the wall and running in the electrical supply. I paid an A/C fitter to fix it all together and gas it.
Absolutely outstanding on mighty like last night.
For the handful of times a year it's required, it's completely justified, for me.

I'd like to add my two pence here; I've bought this unit a few weeks ago and hooked it up to the window in the bedroom and proceeded to cool the bedroom:
Amazon link

There are several issue with this type of unit that has left me now wanted to get rid of the unit and go to the proper split units.
Firstly it is mounted on the floor, so it will cool the air close to the ground, but as you know hot air rises and is present at ceiling level so although the unit says the air temp is now 18 degrees, that is down at floor level, my own thermometer indicates that the room temp is higher further up the room.
Then the noise, it is not possible to have this unit running while sleeping, or with the tv on. Unless you put earplugs in. Sadly this unit incorporates two fans and a compressor all in one box, so noise is inevitable.
Then the exhaust of the unit must be ducted outdoors, through a window. The duct is not long enough to get to the top window which is usually small, so it must go through the bigger window in the room. I did buy the window seal kit that is available, but did not use it as it requires to be permanently stuck to the frame.

In short go for the split unit.

Anyone want to buy a reduced price trotec unit?

And if anybody wants 2, I have a similar one albeit a different make.

we had the portable type that you shove the vent through a window , cant say i would recommend it as there was no where suitable to vent it ,so means having a big window open and letting the heat in /cold out . its also too noisy to sleep with or watch tv

maybe suitable if you have a room you can cool while youre not in that room , but we found the room heats back up fast as soon as its turned off

I have a split unit (Daikin siesta) and a friend who is an a/c installer cool
It's lovely, very very quiet except for when the water pump started up, but we've fixed that now but putting a peristaltic one in the loft.
It's one of these things that you wonder how you ever lived without it

We'll be building a large extension next year, with bedrooms (one of them our master suite) in the roof. I think we'll have to consider putting it in.

I bought one of those mobile ones from Currys a few years back, to cool the kids bedrooms down as they were baking on our previous house. Too loud to sleep with them running but, put them on for an hour before you go to bed, and they'll cool the room down beautifully. Currently have it in my office, thumping away happily as I type!

Either of you anywhere near Southampton? My house is hideously hot and we have one in our room and its great! We put it in my lads room when he goes to bed and I think the noise sends him off to sleep, then we move it into our room when we go to bed. Would be good to have a second one!

Yes, use it all the time. Plumbed unit with the condensor outside at ground level so very low noise.

normally run the room at 17 or 18 degrees. The only important aspect is to make sure the breeze isnt blowing straight at OH otherwise she feels chilly.

I had a couple of bedrooms fitted with Mitsubishi Zen units (fixed split systems), Very highly recommended, in fact I contacted the same people that fitted my last air con to do the same again since I moved, I'll be going with the same Zen unit again but maybe just the one room this time.

Have it fitted in several bedrooms, lounge, and recording studio here. Despite being Highland Scotland it's a real love having thing.

Outside 27C+ this week and working from home would have been a pita with all the electrically on.

Been on all week in fact.

I bought a portable one about 12 years ago from B&Q. Despite it being abused and shoved in the shed/garage every winter it still works/

Very noisy though, and if its humid the water tank fills up quickly and then it beeps annoyingly.
