I'm not going to reply to any more of this insulting thread. I know this is an internet forum and folk can make up whatever stories they like, but to see what some of you have written is insulting and shows a distinct level of stupidity not worthy of reply.mad
Poor show !
Now, now. He's got a lot on his plate having to read up on planning law, planning policy (local and government) planning procedures and electrical regs and liabilities: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...hehe

I have agreed with many of the comments above, even added to them too, but we should not turn on someone who has volunteered for his role. Perhaps when he's settled he will start to fight from within to improve the system that has failed many of us.

Let's leave the pack mentality to the more colourful topics in GG. This is a more civilised corner of PH. biggrin

Whilst I agree that its great that he has volunteered I think we need to bear in mind the following:

1. Councillors are politicians and often there is a "look at me" attitude which opens them up to crititcism

2. He has been very critical about applications without understanding the process

3. He has been misleading about some of the facts in terms of frequency of meetings etc

4. He has been blind to the actual impact of the way applications are dealt with particularly in terms of delay

So to a large degree he has set himself up, he has proven that he won't listen to criticism, he is on the Committee and therefore "must be right" is one of the key issues in planning

Was a little bit harsh , he stuck his head above the parapet.
As someone with no interaction with the planners or the system what should it look like ? Why have a planning committee at all ?

I don't disagree with any of those points ^^^^ . But a system that allows people to take "office" before being fully conversant with the processes and regulations (laws) is wrong. I might be in a minority here but I still think that planning is an issue for professionals, the 'checks and balances' implication of having normal civilians involved in the process does little more than pay lip service to the suggestions of equality and fairness overseen by the man in the street. At the end of the day we all know who's really pulling the strings anyway. It's just that they've now lined up some new Joe Public scapegoats shoot
