Bastarding B&Q - thieving scumbags.
Discussion
At least the gents who work at our local B&Q are friendly and generally know what they're talking about and can give sensible advice.
By contrast, I popped into Wickes a week back and the kid behind the counter who couldn't bother to pull his finger from his nose didn't know what a cable tie was.

Yes, all things being equal I'd rather support my local ironmonger too. Screws are 2p each as opposed to B&Q's pack of ten for £2.99.
Failing that, The Range can be good.
Or just go to Screwfix. You can buy a box of 200 screws for that. Failing that, The Range can be good.
I bought a 1 1/2" flexi waste pipe from B&Q a while ago for a Sunday afternoon job I was doing. It scans through at £13.99, I hand over my trade point card - £6.98!!
That said for plaster and plasterboard they can not be touched my the local merchants.
Swings and roundabouts I guess.
We boycotted B&Q about 18 months and always go Wickes or Screwfix now (they are cheaper anyway!). Boycotted them because of one of their Saturday deals. It was £15 for a Sunlounger, got there at 8am as soon as they opened. People rushing in getting them off a pallet. Was supposed to be 2 per customer maximum, but people had 5 and 6 on a trolley and when we got to the pallet the last ones had gone. Asked the assistant if they had anymore only to be told that was the lot. When I mentioned the 2 per customer stipulation she said she couldn't do anything about people buying more than 2! Couple of hours later there were a fair few on ebay for double the price.

So boycotting B&Q to go to Screwfix is properly sticking it to the Kingfisher group that owns both brands iSore said:

What was she doing out of the kitchen?
The chain broke. But I'm not so sure your thread title is particularly fair. No one forced your wife to do her shopping at B&Q nor did anyone pressure her into making any purchase. The price of the items would have been clearly marked and your wife would have been aware of how much her shopping basket would cost before commencing with the transaction at the checkout. So how you can accuse B&Q of being "thieving scumbags" is a bit of a mystery.
