For B&Q or Screwfix, just put the name as 'BoostMonkey Builders' (for example) and use your home address. They don't (as far as I know) cross reference it to anywhere, and probably don't care that you are not actually a builder. No problem paying with cash or a card in your own name. From memory they wanted Ltd company number , VAT No, letterheading and Website address.

They offer a Plumbfix or Electricfix account which is just like the basic account, but usually offers a seperate trade counter, so you don't have to wait as much, plus you get slightly lower costs.Or does it have any perks?
There is also a Trade card option which then offers credit account facilities.

You'll hate Homebase then. I go to Homebase as it's local, then shake my head and run over to BandQ.Can't stand Homebase. Always amazed its still in business. tools, timber and paint are usually much more expensive than B&Q and others. Got no sympathy with the OP. If you want something cheaper, do you research and buy online so you have time to get the products delivered

I forgot to update this: I did go back a couple of days later and got refunded on some of it. Whilst we were there, the Mrs and I had a mosey around the garden centre bit, against my better judgement. I had to laugh at £4.50 for some cheap and nasty yellow 'duck' watering can that probably cost about 12p to make. The plants were half dead and the cost of those long plastic troughs - £9 each? f

A proper garden centre such as Wentworths up near Doncaster has always been the best place for that stuff. You don't mind paying as you as you feel you aren't being so obviously ripped off for sub standard junk.

We used to have a Payless and that was truly useless. I bought some new screw fixings for a door, then realised I needed a super large crosshead screwdriver to put them in with. Only issue being they didnt sell the screwdriver.
Payless and Homebase both went over to selling a reduced line of DIY mateials and an increased line of crap self assembly furniture. It was no surprise that Payless failed.
On the issue of prices in Screwfix v B and Q there is a huge difference in rental costs between a B and Q and a Screwfix, the former potentially being 10 times as much per sq ft and this then impacts business rates too. The B and Q's then have a much larger floor area, greater numbers of staff, probably a higher stock loss rate etc so the costs of operating them will be far higher.
Personally I use our local independent although its a new start and therefore doesnt sell individual screws and its not an aladins cave as many of the traditional independents are. However they cannot do the same deals that B and Q and Homebase can do on paint etc,

Now, like many, I have kicked the major supermarkets into touch and now shop at Lidl and Aldi. This is after years of brand snobbery, and finally realising that shopping anywhere else is just pissing money away.
Is it not about time an Aldi style DIY chain came to the UK and put these fkers out of business? I've half a mind to take this st back to the shop, get a refund and just find a decent ironmongers but I don't have time to fart at the moment.

The chap a few posts previous hit the nail on the head. Pretty much you are paying for the fact when everywhere else is shut and you're half way through a job you can jump in your car, head down to b and q and get what you need. Unfortunately that kind of thing always costs a premium. If i ran my business and operated with similar opening times I'd no doubt have to increase my mark up too.

Tesco doesn't provide a premium service, and their pricing strategy is no longer competitive against Aldi and Lidl, so why would consumers pay extra. There are some consumers who just need a screwdriver or to buy a tin of paint once a year; B&Q fills the required role for them perfectly.
I am not a fan of b&q,but my mum wanted to have a look at some tiles and get some ideas. We found some tiles on special offer that she liked.popped back home ,measured up,and went back and bought them.
I could not get anywhere near the price elsewhere.so one happy customer here.I should say that I would not have gone there. Last two occasions I had been there they did not have what I wanted.but they were open until eight and the tiles are a good deal.50% off their normal price.

I had a blistering bargain at B&Q last week.
They're ditching Dulux Trade and swapping over to Valspar. My local superstore is the last one to go.
5 litres of tinted vinyl matt for £15. I pay nearer £40 at Dulux and that's with a trade discount.
I'm doing a full refurb at the moment so bought everything they had. Saved £400.
