Morning all,

Looking for a compound mitre saw. Must be able to handle everything from skirting to ceiling joists.

What should I be looking for and what is recommended? Maximum budget is around £300 and assume I will always have access to 240v power.

Thanks

Alex

I have a Metabo KGS216M sliding mitre saw from costco for £150 that's ace. Not sure if it can compound though, not needed to thus far

The builder who's working at my place has a Ryobi one. He seems to get decent results from it. And it has a nice long slide too. He's used it at ours to cut 6"x2" roof timbers. I asked him about it because he's Bosch man, and he said he'd had it for ages and it just wouldn't die! I can't tell you the model number from here, but it's blue!

Perhaps this is it's updated brother

B&Q were selling some German ones which I bought. Sliding compound, will cut a 12x2 timber, and works well on all functions. Laser gets dirty quick but for £95 not a problem. I only bought it so as the DeWalt one didn't get beaten up, and it's as good as that which was £650 dearer.

I bought one of these when they were on offer (£79 I think), used and abused for a couple of years now and still going strong.

Keep an eye on Rage/Evolutions ebay store for B grade saws - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/evooutlet/m.html?item=13...

Bought a double bevel saw for about 50% of RRP and never did find anything about it that wasn't as new!

Be careful with this IMO, I bought the rage sliding mitre from amazon and had to send the first back as there was something wrong with the base. Took me a while to work out why the cuts weren't perfect.

The replacement I got is a brilliant bit of kit at half the price of comparable models and well within your price range.

£210 with a decent stand...

Depends how much you are going to use it and whether you need to move it about.

I've owned a few DIY sub £150 saws - they worked but they were very noisy and big and heavy - both broke when cheap castings failed.

I then found the Dewalt DW777 on offer for £240 which is the saw my carpenter uses and his has lasted 5 years and is still 100%. It is a joy to use, light, quiet and powerful it can't handle huge timber but I don't need to.

This and get a decent high tooth count Freud Blade for it, Screwfix do the blade for about £40.

Mine needed slight adjustment out of the box to get it bang on square but it has stayed there and it is very easy to adjust. The only gripe I have with it is that there is a bit of flex right at the maximum end of the slide, I haven't needed to cut anything that wide with it yet though smile
