Can you offer it for free if they collect?

I assume most people who would want one own a Misubishi Warrior or similar.

;-)
Ahahaha. Totally right.

If you do keep it, remember to mention it to strangers / co-workers / people who used to like you at least once a day.

That looks like an Arctic Spa from the posted picture which is a very high quality well insulated & very heavy make (cost upward of £9000) likely to be in full working order subject to it not having been frost damaged if its been left "empty" during the winter.

Ours is over 10 years now & after a hot steam cleaning came up looking like new this summer. It has never failed to work after being drained down every April & recommissioned end of October time but they do cost a good few quid to keep 38-40c during the winter & with the number of rainy nights in the UK you never use them as much as you think you will!

Thanks. Re cost I was told £10k and I took that with a pinch of salt but that adds up. Thanks.

Looks like a "Tundra" model looking at their site. Any good?

Tundra? Always a risk of black frost.

Back when we were looking to buy a tub all the Arctic Spa models seemed to be a definite cut above the competition in terms of build quality / pump power & price!

This has certainly been borne out in our experience with the caveat that I have always had ours in use through the winter period so no chance of frost damage to the internals which will be the major concern for you as its possibly knackered & through no fault of its own if its been left unheated over a winter.

There was a hot tub in the garden of our house when we moved in. Only just got round to getting it working this last week. It's been empty for at least three years, as that's how long we've been here, no idea how long before.

It got to the point where we had to decide what to do with it, our garden isn't big so it takes up quite a bit of space, the choice was get it working and use it, get it working and sell it or cut it up and take to the tip.

Couldn't really cut it up without even trying it so I filled it up and gave it a go, turned out the circulation pump had failed so I changed that at a cost of £200 and now it works. Bought a load of chemicals and that's where we are with it now. The electricity bill at the end of the month will be the decider I think.

Those with hot tubs, do you keep the temperature up all the time? Or set it lower if you know you won't be using it for a few days? Also, filter cycles, how many and for how long are you running per day?

Keep it at same T all the time. I figured heating it back up when you wanted to use it would use more than the trickle heat needed to keep at temperature (assuming it's insulated properly). Currently set at 36.5C for the summer, had it at 38C or 39C for the winter. We've used it about twice a week during summer, more in winter. I've heard the lids have a useable life of about 5-7 years before they may lose some insulating capacity so worth checking that's OK.

My system is on all the time in terms of filter cycle (through the skimmer). I've never bothered changing the settings since we got it last November. I take the filters out every weekend and give them a good flushing with the housepipe / spray gun and give them a chemical clean about once every 6 weeks. Fully change the water every 3 - 4 months depending on usage.

We use a bromine system for chemicals, using "spa frog". I now only test it once or twice a week after the getting it stable after the fill as I've got used to what to do depending on usage. Took me a while to figure it out and got too keen on adding stuff instead of letting it settle ! To be honest, I think the chemical costs are about equal to the electricity costs but haven't really worked it out properly.

Our hot tub has been drained for about 4 years, we just were not using it.

Today, I refilled it, gave it a good clean down and fired it up.

All the jet pumps worked, heater came on but the re-circ pump had failed. Gave it a spray with WD-40, bit of a turn with some grips and it too started working again.

I've got it filled at the moment, but I'm checking it for leaks before boxing it up and getting the heater back on. Quite looking forward to having a nice soak again.

In a similar vein;
My recirc pump stopped working - if you shoved it round with grips it would turn slowly , which is an indicator of a failed start capacitor (the lump on the side of the motor)
£2.50 on a new cap and its working again - somewhat cheaper than £200 for a new pump.

Well just an update - we were advised that the tub was sold.
Its still there at the moment though.... so we will see.
I cant see any way for them to get it out of the garden other than with a crane or to cut it up.

I was hoping my recirc pump would just be the capacity but alas it wasn't so a new pump was needed. Well a new motor, but there was hardly any difference in price between just the motor and the motor and pump together.

Anybody recommend where to get a new cover from? Ours has certainly seen better days, I'm guessing it's the original so getting on for ten years old now.

Well a rather large crane has turned up.... so that's the end of that!
On the plus side we can make better use of that area now as I think it was a bit wasted as it was set up with the tub.
