Big big car port DIY
Discussion
After a bit of a spending spree this summer I need to erect a Carport pronto.
Needs to accommodate 4 cars so assuming Car length is15ft and width 10 ft (allowing clearance) Im looking at a 40ft behemoth.
Thinking that 20ft roof joists will do the trick as follows:
2 x back, 2 x middle & 2 x front = 6 joists
Then support beams going front to back using 16ft joists = 5 joists
For the uprights I'm thinking 4 x 4 10ft posts concreted into the ground (although 5x5 might be better) as follows:
5 at front, 5 in middle, 5 at back = 15 posts
To cover the back and sides from the elements was thinking chip board with lapping over the top.
For roof Corregated plastic.
Please all and any thoughts on the way I am proposing to do this, the cost of materials, where best place to get them and time to carry this out.
Cheers

Pretty sure I used 4 x 4" posts, a few feet long to build a decking off! With the doors open, and a very windy day I would definitely want something a tad more substantial then that. As I did with my decking.... with no experience, no calculations, no second thoughts (and an excess of enthusiasm) the only way to avoid disaster was to over spec everything to the point of hilarity.
I'd also want holes a few ft deep, and a foot or two in diameter. 110mm screws and coach bolts for joints as well.
Also use this sort of panel for the roof (combined with additional lighting), the plastic gets & looks manky very quickly IMO. You can also use the bitumen to seal the overlaps between panels so no leaky water. It is also less liable to crack and instantly fail.
