So what have you made recently?
Discussion
Most blokes love making stuff & most blokes love showing off / looking at what other people have made, so come on & don't be shy - what have you made recently?
Earlier this year I made a pergola thing for the back of our house. The old one was a bit "fally downy", rotten and didn't go up in the air. It was also very flimsy!
Work in progress...
And finished...
Then last weekend I did a fence & gate for the Mother-in-Law. Nothing fancy but still very satisfying. Needs painting yet but I'm not getting involved...

Finished my first decking around the hot tub a few months ago. Very happy with how it turned out for a first time still just need to put the bottom run in but in no hurry at the mo.
Looks like we've both had a similar idea of using decking to make plant containers. I made an L shaped raised bed a few weeks ago and made two more square ones yesterday (no chance on painting them today though ).The L shaped one, painted, ready to be filled with soil. We got tired of the old road sign being kicked around the street and the council wouldn't take it away when we left it by the rubbish, so the OH decided to use it in the garden:
The two I made yesterday below, including the paint work out about £40 each. I was going to buy some fancy self assemebly beds from a firm called WoodBlox, but they worked out about £250 each for this size. Probably won't last forever, but easy enough just to screw on a replacement decking plank if it starts to rot.
A bird table:
Purposely made 'Rack at eye' as we say round here, no measuring, all hand formed just by eye or comparison of one piece against another from mild steel and no protective treatment so it blends in and ages (rusts!) as it gets older.
I only made one and it took me a day to make, i've been asked to make more, but unsure if it's any good. It was difficult for me to form something which wasn't precise, with no plan and not protect it from the elements as it's the opposite to what I normally do and i'm not artistic in the slightest. There is a fine line between this kind of style and a pile of crap and when I stood back at the end of that day and looked at it I honestly couldn't say which camp it fell into - it's a bit like something from the set of the Adams family or Edward Scissorhands so we just called it the haunted bird house.
I may make myself one to attract the Wood pigeons so I can make more of this:
Woody breast with lardons, shallots, garlic, peas, cider & cream
Cider was homemade non PC 8%+:
That did go down very well and will be making more soon.

Pair of fitted wardrobes:

All ash, apart from the panels which are oak-faced MDF and the shelves which are MDF. Mortice and tenon construction, solid as fk, took me ages, cost a small fortune, but they're only to do once.

A make-up/jewelery cabinet for the missus birthday:

This was made with some left-over ash from the wardrobes, the bathroom mirror that was dropped and chipped and replaced and an off-cut of oak-faced MDF. So cost nothing.
Really enjoyed making this and it's really practical. Eventually I'll make some inserts to house jewelry etc too, but lots of more pressing things to do at the moment.
I've just finished making some shelves in the living room that have turned out rather well, I'll add some pictures of those later.....

I'd just want to cover up the silver track at the top.
Me too! I cocked that up; hence the spare bits for the makeup cabinet. Deeper piece is sat at my parents house awaiting delivery.....I need to fill that gap in one of them too, but can't decide what to put there. My idea for a sock dispenser keeps getting shot down by the boss.

How did you cut the rebate in the door frames for the oak panels to sit in, router table or was it hand-routered? Very nice job. I have alcoves either side of a fireplace and looking for inspiration, something like this would be ideal.Used the router for pretty much everything, apart from cutting the wood to length I think.
They did take about 30 man days to make though and cost somewhere around £400 each. Worth it I think.
