Long story short: our new place has a fitted alarm system but we weren't provided the code. I've managed to activate the sodding system and have had to disconnect from the mains to stop the bloody siren going off.

Here's the question:
Can I just replace the keypad to set my own code, or do I need to buy the control panel and keypad to "make it my own"?

It's not currently connected to any local alarm firm, and the company who fitted it have been less than helpful.

Update: Resolved by buying a new control panel and keypad.

It's almost always possible to default the panel, the process varies depending on the make and model of panel.

You may be best to find a local installer that's prepared to takeover and reprogram the system.

Have tried the default process but without any joy. Somewhat loathed to fork out £85 for a 30 minute call-out when I could buy and install a new control panel and keypad for less than that.

Sorry if stating the obvious but have you tried the estate agent if you bought through one? I did the same when we moved and luckily they had it. No chance of getting hold of previous owner?

The estate agent didn't even have the front door key, and certainly not the alarm code.

Have spoken with the tenant who lived here prior to the sale, and even he wasn't provided with a code by the owner.

Cheers.

The irony is that I used to install alarm systems about 20 years ago.

Daft question but if you did really install you would know the answer.

Good point. I only installed one particular system and I didn't do it for long enough to be able to remember the answer.

Edit: You've given me an idea. If I could get hold of the senior technician I used to work with, he'd have the answer.

Post a pic of the panel and main box.

Lots of free manuals around to find the engineer mode sequence.

Without knowing what panel you have - how can anyone answer that question?

I would expect you have to factory reset the whole thing (which is probably a jumper or linking some inputs) and then re-program from scratch.

I've tried the factory reset sequence. However, if the engineer code started with a 9 (which it seems to), the factory reset won't work - according to the manual.

It's a EuroSec system.
