A man does need his own space.
A downstairs toilet would cover this and add more value to a house smile (Or an en suite bathroom).

I am also in the camp that argues a log cabin to he value of the house, or at least not an appreciable amount. It may add a small amount from a buyer that likes it, and it may make the house more saleable and if buyers had a choice of 2 identical houses at the same price they might choose the one with the log cabin.

The reasons why people might be reluctant to pay a significant amount extra are that it is something else to maintain, and because the depreciation on a log cabin will be greater. Generally speaking houses appreciate in value, and generally can be relatively easily maintained. However whether factually correct or not buys are going to perceive that a log cabin has a shorter lifespan and may require recladding in 10 or 15 years. Even if it doesnt its likely that the timber will need treating regularly which just detracts from it.
