A friend has just bought one of the Premier Inn beds. I have to admit I find them very comfortable

Manufactured by Hypnos so not a cheap brand.

King size including mattress and divan base is £900. £525 for just the mattress.
Ive got a Hypnos matress, well worth it, think i paid £800 ish just for a king matress but worth every penny. Buy from a good independant, as said avoid dream, bensons etc etc.

After many years of ghastly, shagged-out rented house mattresses stained with maps of Ireland, it was time to move into our own place and splash out.

Most if not all mattress companies make a range of mattresses

Harrisons I know make quite a few, all named after trees! Cherry, willow etc, priced accordingly of course
They are probably about the best mainstream company, also look at Tempur who have a good range.
Also Dunlipillo, Hypnos and Baker & Wells are good.

Try an local indie, see what they say.

The divan base should not matter a lot unless there is a top quality mattress on a basic base.

After spending more and more money on 'miracle mattresses' (last one was £2k) and still waking up aching, I have come to the conclusion that a Flat Thing is not really the best design for the human body.

Have you tried latex?

Seen them recommended here a few times, will probably be looking to get our next bed/mattress from them but haven't yet purchased myself.
Having done a lot of research on beds of late, our next bed will be from these guys. Just waiting for some house stuff getting done. Looking at Super King Zip kit. Pricey, but if my research is accurate, worth it.

Any tips on memory foam type? Better than springs? I can't stand the squeaking.

Costco and JL good for service. May well be purchasing from one of them. Any tips?

We ordered a Harrison matteress at a small indie shop, about 4 weeks ago, so expecting it soon - apparently Harrison provide mattresses for JL. We went with Harrison as the indie delivered and assembled and took the old bed away for no extra cost.

Geltex superking from Costco.

It's my favourite place in the house.

If you mean memory foam, yes, not actual Tempur as that is stupidly expensive and gave no obvious benefits in support that I could see from tryouts in the bed shop. The cheaper one we bought and used for a few months I found too hot to sleep on, again with no better support.

Warren Evans. Failing that John Lewis. Have used both and no complaints. Buy the best mattress you can afford. Look on it as an investment in your health and well being.

No, natural latex (Talalay or Dunlop) is absolutely different from ghastly memory foam!

We got our mattress from here a year ago (when it was still Yanis Mattresses), absolutely love it. Owner was great to deal with, good returns policy (we swapped from our initial choice to this http://www.latexsense.co.uk/sensation-2000-latex-m... as first one was a bit too soft.

For the price, I don't think it can be beaten. Latex comfort layer beats everything else we tried hands down.

From my research at the time, this place also came highly recommended for more traditional choices

He's certainly raised his game. And his prices seem no more, maybe less. I'd tried every other kind of mattress with no succees - latex is just right. The only downside IMHO is it's damn heavy to turn over!

Recently bought one from Warren Evans, inc one of their higher end pocket sprung mattresses, seems to be a very good bit of kit, not the cheapest place in the world probably, think it was around £1300 all in but its nicely made and simple to assemble with a decent drill.

Try getting it up the stairs on your own, and then trying to fold it up and return it and getting its even heavier replacement up the stairs on your own!

I don't know what kind of style you are after, but I sourced my bedframes from the natural bed company. I sourced the mattresses via John Lewis...

If you're in London, can highly recommend Litvinoff and Fawcett

Very well made, comfortable, and pretty good value too.
