Need a new washing machine our 13 year old hotpoint is playing up well it has been for the last year tbh.

Anyway there are only 2 of us so don't need huge drum. We would like auto dosing and quiet!
Seen a nice Bosch Serie 8 Logixx WAW28660GB its got 250 cash back on it at mo so comes in at roughly £250

As for dryer we have never had one and have no vent hole so needs to be condensing other than that no idea what else to look for.

Any help or views would be great!

I know everyone is going to follow me and say 'don't get a washer/dryer'.

But, IMO get a washer/dryer. We bough our Hotpoint one 3 years ago and it does 2 washes and a dry everyday without any problems at all. That includes washing my work clothes covered in mortar/soil/tarmac/whatever else every week. Its never been cleaned and never had any faults/repair work on it whatsoever. I imagine if you looked after it better than we do then it would have a fair few years in it. It cost us about £600 IIRC.

Traditionally I would have suggested Bosch. But when my washing machine and tumble dryer packed up in the same week, I bought a Samsung washer (as recommended by which?), and a Panasonic heat recovery dryer.
The washing machine was superb (and after 1.5 years still is) it's the 8kg eco bubble machine. It's very good indeed. 5 year warranty helps to. Whole range of easy to use washes on it, and cleans stinking overalls very well indeed.
The Panasonic was pants. It broke down in a week or 2, and the replacement machine did the same. So I got my money back (Well done Scottish Power), and bought the equivalent model Samsung. Cheaper, and 1.25 years in fault free.
It has a bottle thing you empty every day or so, so it's much more economical than a condensing (These use the most energy of the lot), and is supposed to look after the polar bears. And of course you don't need a hole in the wall. Again, it has a load of programmes, and monitors how wet the clothes are. It stops when they are dry enough.

Sorry for the long links - hope they work

what about combo washer dryers?

looked at the wd8000 samsung 12kg wash and 8kg dry looks good might be a bit big though as its got a bowed front

but are they any good we really only have space for the washer the dryer would have to sit on top of the work surface

I'd steer clear of washer dryers, we had a neff one a few years ago and it was pretty poop to be honest. Didn't really do either well.

We've got separates now, but in the plans for our extension we plan on putting the tumble dryer above the washing machine to save space.

Would the cheapest miele be better than any other washer though?

Which is (usually) your friend. Put it like this, I had a Samsung based on the which thoughts, it was cheaper than a Miele, and scored higher. 5 year warranty takes some beating.

PS, a heat pump tumble dryer weighs a tonne (well quite heavy).

That bosch in the OP is a very good choice. Those ones are generally very reliable and very well built.

AVOID washer dryers, they often go wrong, are less efficient, take a long time and are expensive for what they are. Even the better ones like Bosch are made in China. (Washers and dryers are built in Poland, Turkey and Germany depending on model)

And with regards to Miele, don't waste your money. The build quality and reliability is not sa good da Mieles of old, the Bosch will have the same quality (at least) whilst being cheaper and/or having more features.

Bosch dryers are good, but not the best for the money. They don't reverse so I find things like sheets can ball up, our condenser one is three years old and dries well most of the time.

Buy the cheapest washing machine and send awkward-to-dry items such as bed linen out to laundry.

£16 for a king size bed linen set of Egyptian cotton washed and ironed. What's not to like.

We went for an LG washer dryer. It's excellent with really good warranty. It's used daily (family of 4) and has never put a foot wrong. It's very quiet, direct drive to the drum so no betts etc, it's easy to use and the dryer works well which is rare in a combined machine.

Chosen over Bosch and Miele

That heat pump jobby I mention is A++. The next one down is similar spec but some figures I am not sure of, with respect the condensation level in the exhaust. They are mentioned in the data sheet on the Bosch web site. Other than that which reckon 34 quid a year to run. Providing it does not break down the four or five years or so and has paid for itself.

Seen around a 100 quid difference in high street prices.

We've got either that one, or one that sounds similar.
Whisper quiet, it's great.
