I have bought a new light switch for the landing with a timer built into it for security reasons. I cannot quite work out which cable goes where though.

Existing light switch.

When you mean common live do you mean the 'Live' or the 'Load' ? The diagram on the new switch shows the 'Com', as it is currently connected to on the existing switch going to the 'Load'.

How does a timer switch work with a two way setup? that could get confusing hehe

I really want to get some timer light switches like the one linked, but they all say they are only suitable for loading that is larger than most of my bulbs seeing as I'm now on low energy bulbs and LEDs wherever possible.

Do timers switches exist for low energy bulbs?

I couldn't find one that didn't need a neutral at the switch so decided to fit this sensor which switches on LED lights just fine.

I was a bit baffled by what's shown on the back of the timer so had a look at the full instructions. It's more complicated than is shown on the back of the switch - have you got the full instructions?

ETA: I deleted the other stuff I wrote as 2 way circuit wiring can get messy and the colours in your picture aren't exactly right (with blue and yellow used, I'd have expected the red sleeved black to be a plain red, and I don't know what those other 2 red wires are).

It's hard to tell from your pic but going by what I can see I'd say your two way is wired as per the following diagram.

]

As there is a timer element to your switch one would assume you will need a permanent feed to the switch, something you don't have at that particular switch. There is a permanent feed present but it does not route through the contacts of the switch, rather it bypasses through the switch onto the three core feeding into the "COM" of the second switch and comes back along either the blue or yellow strapper (depending on the position of the second switch) then up to the light fitting on the red flagged black switch wire.

It looks like this would be best mounted at the second switch location to pick up the permanent feed into the "LIVE" on the new switch.

ETA: New diag added

Cheers FWD.

Alternatively, if it is preferable to have the switch at that location you could swap a couple of cores around so that the permanent feed connects into the switch as per the following...
