Fire risks prompt tumble dryer recall.
Discussion
I re-registered my faulty dryer on the website and have just had this reply.....
Your repair status
Due to high demand it is currently estimated that we will be able to complete the modifications to your tumble dryer in June.
We will be in contact with you in due course to arrange the repair visit from our engineer.
June, I guess they are hoping to collect it using a dustpan and brush!

Just had my email update today. Repair estimated for June, or a replacement for £59. Just going to wait as our dryer is only just a year old plus the offered replacement is the wrong colour.
Just had mine too - older machine, so they want £99 to upgrade to a new one but ours is silver and they are only offering white.Google shows that some have had other colours offered them and some a free upgrade so I suspect some machines aren't easily "fixable"
Spoke with them today and now have a new condensing dryer being delivered next Thursday.
£99 , bargain considering ours has been hammered for the last 5 years.
Be aware that the condensing dryer on offer is deeper than most, so will not sit entirely under a normal worktop. It's 649mm deep.

I did notice when our replacement was delivered but as it lives under the stairs behind a door it was fine, Ruddy thing sounds like the Enterprise going into warp when it changes direction while it is drying.£99 , bargain considering ours has been hammered for the last 5 years.

Only the sound and not noise as it is a lot quieter than the old one we had which was 5 years old, and the wife broke the drawer a few years ago so result for us.
Why do all the news items mention the filter it is the condenser that is the problem. Mind you some of the replies to this thread mention the same?

Ours doesn't have a condenser, It's excess fluff in the filter contacting the heating element that's the problem here apparently.Only the sound and not noise as it is a lot quieter than the old one we had which was 5 years old, and the wife broke the drawer a few years ago so result for us.

This will come as no surprise to some but, thought it worth an update.
Owners of tumble dryers requiring repairs in a fire safety campaign are being told they must wait 11 months for their appliance to be fixed.

I heard about the recall the second week of December. I bought my drier second hand off eBay for £30. When I filled the application, I mentioned it was second hand.
I got a letter telling me that I would hear from them in about 5 weeks I think it was.
A few days later I was given an appointment for Jan 25th for the recall work to be done.
A chap came to do it, but when he took the back off, he said he couldn't do it because my drum had a rounded back, as opposed to a flat one. He said that it would take a long time to get the drum, but he would order it. I mentioned to him that the drier was a £30 eBay special, and he said it didn't matter.
I had a phone call a few days later, saying a drum was available, and was Feb 4th suitable for the repair to be carried out. I said yes, and the guy turned up and did the work including a new drum.
I have no idea how I got so lucky and had it fixed so quickly. The person who mentioned the recall to me in December had already registered her drier, and she has been told it will be about June.

Hmmm....so what happens if you already own one of these affected tumble dryers, but want to sell it without the recall work being carried out......would you be held liable if the dryer caught fire in the new owners home?
Well, it wouldn't be a great selling point having to inform the purchaser that the dryer might suddenly combust, as would imagine one would have to inform them of such. Then the ball would be in their court for responsibility of such. Well after calling multiple times our Engineer came out today...
Didn't even knock the door and left.
I called him within 3 minutes of him calling me (I was on another call) he said we were out and he wasn't coming back !
There was three of us in the house including one who was painting the hall - behind the front door.
Have spent the last hour calling all the different numbers to complain but they go around in a circle until you get an engaged tone then it cuts you off.

I've discovered the only way you can get through to someone is via the "Live Chat"

Re booked for next week - with instructions to knock on the door.

My repair wasn't ever booked in the six month period it took to end this saga.
I got a bit vicious on Twitter and they agreed to a free replacement.
I waited.
And waited.
It transpired that they were out of stock of the suggested replacement so we finally took delivery of a slightly better model last week.
Shambolic.
