Had the first quote yesterday from a chap for 11 Windows, a composite door, and dormer cladding; £6900 which he was discounting by 60% already rolleyes. spoke to his manager and reduced to £4200...
Seems very cheap to me. Very cheap indeed if that is supply and fit.
Yep supply and fit liniar windows. To be honest I thought that was on the high side for extruded plastic boxes and 2 pieces of glass slapped together. 11 grand seems fantasy pricing to me.
Cheapest I could find was £3900 for 7 windows, front and rear UPVC doors.

Composite door will be more, and you're getting 4 more windows in place of the second door for £300 more.

The window frames are manufactured by various company's but the UPVC channel they use is the "brand".
REHAU make some of the best, the manufacturers basically cut it to size and plastic weld it into a frame. As for failing double glazed units their isn't much variance in the spacer and glass is glass. they tend to fail when they are packed into the frame incorrectly. if one pane is supported and the other isn't over time the heating and cooling will allow one to drop, a bit like when you twist a oreo apart.

In terms of pricing, we had ours done this time last year:

7 windows and patio door in white uPVC (4 windows with lead), composite front door and uPVC patio door and a couple of extras such as child locks: £6200 inc VAT and fitting.

I would avoid any national firms or those that approach you - I made the mistake of inviting one to quote which started at £22k before coming down to £5k over the course of a couple of weeks of harassment.

We used Checkatrade to confirm that the local company a friend recommended was a good bet and we've been really pleased with the service and the product.

I used Rehau. The PVCu sections are reinforced with metal boxes and are really solid. You get what you pay for, and I'm wondering if the cheaper windows either use thinner metal sections or none at all.

Not necessarily, although I'd love to know what £22k windows looks like for reference...!
