I had a quote to rip out a gravity fed system, and install Combi in the room below. Mains water and Gas at this location.

It wasn't exact quote, but he said between £2500-£2750 inc VAT for Worcester 30/35 CDI (Cant remember which one)

I fking love PH - knowledge in abundance.
Sadly as its the tennants place I can't just tell them to put on a jumper and stop moaning as I would do my own family.
Here is the breakdown to understand more..

Boiler - £1159 (seems there or there about from looking on line) (depends on make, but should be £900-£1000)
Electical connection - £196 (rip off)
Install standard flue terminal - £209. (rip off)
Connection of condensor pipe to external pipe - £77. (rip off)
Thermostat - £150 (rip off, their own wireless ones are st, a decent Honeywell one would be £50)
Magnetic System Filter - £239. (rip off, half that)
Gas pipe installation - £134. (rip off)

Instllation of boiler - £1216. (what's all the above?! so another rip off to screw the boiler plate to wall?!)

Gross cost: £3384 (inc VAT)
Discounts: £421

Net Price: £2962.

How reasonable - or otherwise does that sound. I have literally no idea or frame of reference.
Nice padding out of the quote. It's a rip off and pretty much every BG quote I've seen comes to the same price!

One other thing to consider though is whether the system needs flushing. If its old it may well do because modern boilers do not take kindly to systems with crud in them - something to do with the water ways inside the boiler being much finer than they used to be (so they block up more easily). The magnetic filter is a good idea & will help with this but if it needs flushing then it needs doing before you risk damaging a new boiler.

Thanks for the input fellas.
Have found an indy who laughed his arse off when I told him what BG have quoted - he's gone round today to take a look.

Probably just saved myself £1500 - so thanks again everyone. beer

I had my combi replaced recently and moved from the bathroom airing cupboard, to the kitchen. He installed a Worcester i30 or something. Everything was replaced, except we used our existing room stat. I had previously removed all the floorboards so he could run the pipe work.

Total cost £2.4k (in Swindon)
