So not naming brands until I get some feedback but....

First time using Pyro cleaning function on my oven last night ended in a cooked oven, potentially the new induction hob and having to kick my daughter out of the house in case it actually burnt down!!

30 minutes into an hrs cleaning function and the oven was "cooked" - smoke everywhere and the control panel was toast with the hob above it taking a massive hit due to the heat coming up.

Not sure I trust it now - engineer coming Monday, but long rant sent to retailer saying lost trust in a 7 week old oven!

Never had any problems with ours. Two ovens, both Siemens, just remove the shelves, give the inside a little wipe out to remove any loose stuff, hit the button and leave it until it is done. No smoke or other dramas.

If I were you I'd be looking for a full refund and then buying something of a different brand.

Yeah - the retailer fobbed me off this morning, but followed up with an email saying not fit for purpose.

Just waiting for the it wasn't fitted right argument come Monday.

Luckily its on the credit card - I honest don't like to think of what would of happened had that been my wife!!

Pics?

What actually happened did the panel above it melt/catch fire?

These things get so hot they turn wooden handles of griddle pans into dust (ooops)

Sure you didn't just have a fat / oil spillage in there that caught fire and smoked out? (again know what thats like!)

Mine works perfectly well - the thing to watch for is not to leave the grill on with the door shut after you've finished cooking (there should be a thermal cut-out for that).

Absolutely nearly brand new at 7 weeks and I just wanted to test it. It started fine then 35 minutes in the fan made a funny noise and I turned round to find smoke everywhere, the panel was off and roasting - the heat coming out was unbelievable round the counter.

It wouldn't stop so I had to switch it off at the wall!

We have a JL oven. We don't use the pyrolytic function much but it always works perfectly.

Not much use to you either but we have 2 Neff's built in and use this function ever 2 weeks on both and never had any bother either...

Have to be honest - pretty stressed about it and it wasn't a pretty email to the supplier.

Did it catch fire or just smoke? If you have been cooking things that spit fat up, down , around etc.. then it burns and throws out LOTS of smoke. If I haven't cleaned for a long while it basically leave a black fog in the kitchen. Not pleasant at all.

Just smoked - however, let me be clear that smoke coming from the back of the oven and so much heat from the top of it up through the induction hob and round the sides enough that the control panel cuts out doesn't seem right to me!!

I know it should smoke and for the start it did that to a degree - which I expected.

For what it's worth ours doesn't smoke. Just a fine dust inside once it's finished.

Definitely sounds like a fault! With only a 7 week old oven this should have been fine.

This doesn't sound right. Mine doesn't do that no matter how much of a bad state the oven is in. I'm guessing it must have some sort of filtration on the air coming out of the oven.

Ovens don't vent do they? The locking mechanism holds the door pretty tight on the seals so you shouldn't get fumes outside.

So not toasted and no massive hit. All squadrons RTB.

I would be interested in knowing the brand.

Normally during the Pyro clean the internal cavity temperature rises to circa 460 Celsius during that cycle the fan serves to create airflow to help keep the control panel from overheating and melting. If the fan made a noise and stopped working it would explain the melting control panel.

Pyro ovens are generally terrific bits of kit, we sell literally hundreds each year with very few issues.

So - in the end it turned out to be the secondary fan on the oven not kicking in when it reached 200c.

New fan later and working, but I am arguing the toss with the retailer about the potential long term damage to it and my hob!
