Perhaps you would like to see the entire site then? The Homes, Gardens and DIY section are going to be bombarded with questions once the plans come through.

That is stunning! Care to share any more info?
I'll get a build thread up when the time comes. Trying to tidy some of the grounds out while we wait for our plans. The missus cut a very small section of the matted lawn down with a strimmer and hedge cutter.

I'm not so sure it will recover.

Front lawn - 2.5 weeks in, beginning to look ok, lots coming through.

Rear lawn - 2 weeks in, areas that get the most are beginning to look ok, areas that are most in shade, and no surprise those areas I removed by far the most moss from are doing nothing. All I can see is a lot of seed. Im beginning to think I would have done better with shady seed although I doubt it would have germinated any quicker.

Dear lawn genii,

I laid new turf six months ago, while it was so mild. It's a very small lawn, seems to have gone down fine over the winter, is thicker and healthier than what I pulled up. I've watered it monthly with some basic NPK and now mown it once with my push mower.

But, there is a heart shaped weed all over it, at its worst at the edges:

Is there anything I can do to combat this, or is it something I have to live with?

Thanks in advance.

With the arrow shaped leaves, that could well be field bindweed. A selective lawn weedkiller such as Verdone or Resolva will set it back but it'll likely require several applications over a period of time to get rid of it altogether as it's a stubborn little devil with a massive root system.

I did use the shady lawn seed, two 1/2 weeks ago. Nothing at all happening so far!

I know little about lawns, but I'm pretty sure it's not bindweed. It's not spreading across and over things. I think it might be Creeping Charlie given the leaf shape and it spreading everywhere without tendrils.

Can anyone advise on how to tackle Creeping Charlie, fertilize the young turf, and sow a little Shadygreen grass seed, in the next few weeks? Bit out of my depth now.

Recently completely over seeded my lawn (page or two back) - when can I next feed the lawn? The seed obviously hasn't germinated yet. I have Greenthumb in to do it, they say 6 weeks after germination but this seems quite soon to me?

I respectfully dare to disagree with Mr Jagnet! smile

It's definitely Celandine. The yellow flowers are the giveaway, and the leaf shape is correct as well.

Celandine is pretty, and it's tempting to let it grow. But it is horribly invasive. It springs up in early spring, spreads like wildfire for a couple of months and then, mercifully, vanishes. But it has just retreated back into its little pea-sized tubers.

It does respond to selective sprays (I've been using Resolva on it with some success) but it does need a couple of applications. Digging it out is unlikely to work because you just end up distributing the tubers around and making the problem worse for next year.

But the good news is that even if you don't manage to kill it, it will fk off in a few weeks' time anyway.

So I put some seeds down a couple of weeks ago, however only a fraction of them seem to be germinating growing. Would it be worth putting down more seed or better to wait for the ones that are down to germinate?

I wouldn't give up on your seed after 2 weeks given how cold it's been. It's meant to warm up a bit from now on so I'd hope a fair bit more will start to germinate if you keep it watered. I'm more concerned about the damage last night's frost will have done to my newly germinated seed that's only just popped up over the past week!

Same here, but I know those that have germinated are the ones that get the most sun, so theyve had the warmth they need. What seeds need is warm moist conditions and it really hasnt been that. The shadier part of my lawn has done nothing, the sunny part is just starting to look like its going to be successful so Id say stick with it.

From what I read it should be ok

Gents...question for you regarding application method. I have a relatively large area to cover and it seems that you can either buy granular or liquid fertilisers/weed/moss treatment products. Whichever way I go I am either going to have to buy a sprayer or a fertiliser spreader.

Which would you recommend...granular or liquid ?

Not strictly a lawn question but...

We have hundreds if not thousands of bluebells growing in the flower beds round our garden/lawn. We're trying to dig them and their bulbs out of the rose beds, but is there any other way to get rid of them?

I've got 3/4 of an acre to do and I've been recommended to spray. have bought a towed sprayer for the lawn tractor that also has a hand sprayer attached.

Which one did you get ? They vary massively in pricing!
