To bring this up to date; I got some Philips CorePro LEDcandle 6W ES14s and they are so much better than the crap I had before.

This what I got

It's not a great picture but you can see the Philips on the left and the old 5w crap chinese led on the right. The reflection on the ceiling is the most telling aspect.

The light from all of these just looks so cold to me. Can anyone post a good pic of a "warm white" led set up, please?

This might help you Harry....

Left to right:

LED 10W 4000K 900 Lumen | LED 10W 3000k 900 Lumen | LED 10W 2700k 900 Lumen | Halogen 50W 2700k 500 Lumen

And below from the office - all 2700k

Pics taken with iPhone so to be fair, image 2 looks warmer when you see it first-hand

Is the 2700K dimmable? Could you dim it down to similar brightness to the halogen? (Still looks a bit cool in comparison on that photo).

(Also...did you get my email about the LED tape/strip.....? smile)

I know Guy will likely respond but as an "objective" outsider - I was there on Wednesday, in that very room and the colour temp of the halogen and the LED immediately next to it are basically the same, the intensity/brightness of the halogen light is just lower. If you want a close, close match to say a 60w incandescent pearl type bulb the 2700k LED is pretty much perfect and is not, in any way, cold.

The 3000K one in the middle is what we've used a lot where there's been a need to provide "warmth" but also a good quality light for task purposes (kitchens) for example.

I'll defer to Guy to get in to the technicalities and specifics of dimming but I can tell you the dimming modules he was using are very impressive; no flicker, work well with single loads and dim to a very low level.

There's a huge difference between el-cheapo LEDs from eBay and what's happening at the higher end. It's not a simple matter of just the bare LED technology but the optics and fixtures combined. Basing an opinion of current LED technology on 3pence bargain 10w jobs from an eBay job lot is not a good idea.

I bought the Philips dimmable 5w 2700K ones, 6 for the living room at £7 a pop. Very happy with them. I don't actually dim them but might install a dimmer at some stage. They are just right for the living room. I was concerned as the ones I had before were very yellow (and a tenner a pop), but very happy with the Philips ones.

I think I might try to track down some 3000K for the kitchen but not sure if Philips so them.

BTW, a quid less each if you want non-dimmable.

All dimmable but you can have 4/5/7 w versions of what's showing in the box there. Those on display are almost double the halogen in terms of output.

I didn't get a mail from you I'm afraid. The PH system is borked at the mo so you should drop me a direct message. guy@ the website in my profile

I've had the same problem with LED G9s, bought as Warm White but give a nasty bluish light. If anyone has a source of good quality, preferably dimmable, Warm White G9 LED lamps I need about 20 off.
I got these dimmable ones

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00V5QI36G?psc=...

They have been OK for me but there's lots of bad reviews on amazon so your mileage may vary as they say. There's no flicker except when on the dimmest setting, even with my 6 year old dimmer switch that probably predates LED lamp technology. But dimming is not very gradual & smooth - that could be my switch.

From the Amazon section saying what else people bought, it looks like people have got several different types intending to return the ones that don't work so well.
Update - one of these has blown, so can't recommend any more.

On a related note, could anyone recommend a lighting designer in the Bromley area? We are replacing our kitchen and downstairs and are looking for an expert to really make the best of the lighting options...

Cheers,

UV
