There's a dude at my gym who just managed 45 mins!!!!!

Apparently he's done over an hour before....

...he's no spring chicken either, must be in his late fities!

My best is 4 mins 54 secs - my wife does 5 mins every day, she seems to think she could do between 6-8.

But 45!

Mental..

What's your best?

About 90 seconds hehe

My 62 year old Mum, while a bit pissed up, decided to demonstrate her plank in front of quite a few guests at Christmas. She ended up ripping one of the loudest farts I've ever heard rofl

About a second, but it was VERY loud.

Or do you mean her plank?

I stop at 3 minutes I didn't think going longer would be any good for you, and reduced it down to a max of 1 minute and started doing other exercises as well crunches etc, then added. I do used to do 3x3minutes.

Why would you spend 45 minutes or an hour planking? You could get a whole workout done in that time!

I've no idea what I could manage as I rarely do them and have never timed myself though I would guess a few minutes. Being tall and lanky does not optimise one for planking.

Not that it isn't good for you but I assume if you can do a few minutes plank comfortably, you need to stop doing it and go do something harder.

Plenty of plank progressions to think about - raising legs, repeated changes in leg seperation, moving up to hands and back down to elbows. One armed plank, adding in trunk rotations, bringing a leg/knee up to your armpit. After that you can bring in gym balls or bosu balls to add instability.

One of my favourites is to have feet on a ball, bring the knees in, then out and as you go back out raise one foot off the ball slightly, then bring that leg/knee in again and then rotate your body so the leg passes under. You have to hold the core whilst doing a fairly fast rotation. Good exercise for swimming which is essentially that.

I lose interest after 15 seconds and start doing push ups...

I'd rather do:
-front levers
-hanging leg raises
-hanging windscreen wipers
-hollow body holds

I can't bring myself to do planks for more than a couple of seconds. Don't bother posting that link saying how good they are - I don't give a st.

I wonder what the world record is for sitting upright in a chair?

YOU ARE WRONG. You might need a coffee table and not have one available...

Well, of course, but it's not a plank challenge is it?

I've managed 5 minutes but to be honest I get bored out of my mind (as well as shaky as a druggie coming of a heavy dose).

45 mins is just mind numbingly mental!!!
