We're about 6 months into John Ryan ownership and we both love it, I wasn't quite sure for the first couple of weeks but it seemed to 'bed' in. I really miss it when I'm away from home.
A couple of my colleagues have tried Eve mattresses and ended up returning them. I'm surprised to hear that they sell reconditioned mattresses directly though. There's a local discount furniture store that sells reconditioned Eve mattresses, but they're quite open about the fact that they're returned mattresses with a new cover at a heavily reduced price. I assumed they all ended up in similar outlets.

Specifically which model of the Ryan mattresses are you guys buying? Origins/Artisan? Comfort/Pocket/Pocket Reflex/Pocket Latex etc?
We got an Artisan 1500. As the previous poster mentioned took a few days to get used to it but very cosy now. I hate getting up in the mornings CAPP0 said:

That's interesting. I wonder if it could be the reason some have "new foam smell" and others don't?
We're also getting a Leesa mattress to try, to see which we like best. I remember reading on their website that they give returns to local charities (as well as donating 1 mattress to a homeless shelter for every 10 sold) which I thought was a smart use for them.
Be very interested to hear whether the Leesa is better/worse/same.We're also getting a Leesa mattress to try, to see which we like best. I also contacted Simba last week, as they do actually have some springs in them. Apparently they are available to try in John Lewis so may do that.
The Eve is going back. It was too firm at first, then settled down very nicely, but after a few weeks started to get too soft and lost all edge support. We have a super-king bed with two 'European Single' mattresses (same as zip-link, without the zip, but with a thick feather topper to remove the join) and if you lie anywhere near the edge of the Eve you will roll off. In fact even lying in the middle of the Eve you can feel yourself being pulled off the bed. A shocking lack of edge support!
The Leesa... Struggling to make our minds up, and only a few days left on the 100 days. I find it too firm, wife likes it - she's half my weight so I don't know how she can stand the firmness! It does feel nice to lie on if you're OK with the firmness, and has far superior edge support (although I worry this will also collapse over time, like the Eve).
Simba - just got it 2 weeks ago to replace the Eve. Love it so far! You can feel the different layers at work so that even though it's reasonably firm, it's still very supportive. This is my favourite by far, but the Eve was also nice after 2 weeks so I will wait longer before deciding.
We recently bought a super king 240 from mammoth. It's all foam, very supportive, no excessive heat retention. I can honestly say it's the best I've ever bought (having bought a few). Also bought their all foam pillows as I have a dodgy shoulder and figured it would be a good idea to try and keep my spine straight as I tend to sleep on my side. Can't fault anything, really pleased with it.
Now had a 2 weeks of the John Ryan. Like floating in cotton wool but with adequate support. I wouldn't have believed the difference a new mattress would make to unconsciousness. Various aches and twinges have disappeared and I'm told I've stopped snoring after 55 years of married bliss (on my part only - apparently). Also, Mrs. T is smiling again. Thanks for the info.
Re my JL 7000 I wasn't happy about - they arranged for a Harrison representative to come and look at it. He said he was 16st, laid on it, didn't make any impression.
Once he's got back to JL to say it's not right I'll hopefully sort a refund and start again.
Worth noting if you are buying JL that their Harrison-supplied mattresses come in medium and firm tension, so no soft option. As such, their medium is between soft and medium of a Harrison's.

JL sent a harrison man to inspect my Super King 1400 spring Yorkshire Woll Mattress after 2 years, it had sagged in teh middle, they gave me a credit for the full amount towards a eplacement.Once he's got back to JL to say it's not right I'll hopefully sort a refund and start again.

I would be too, even with the long socks.... Holy thread resurrection, etc. .....
Has anyone tried those memory foam matresses - those yellow ones - that are advertised on TV?
Intrigued if they're any good with their money back guarantee?
I'm in the market for a new bed and the John Ryan site has certainly been an eye-opener to the crud the industry spreads about (and I must admit to experiencing the very fatigue and frustration they allude to when trawling through endless 'SALE NOW ON - MUST END SOON!" and "up to50% OFF IN-STORE NOW!" crap).
As a bigger fellow I'm going to up my original budget (substantially) and look at their Resilience mattresses; I have a few questions I'm planning to ask them prior to purchase but the one thing I'm stuck on is bed frames. I'll be going up to a king from a double and I know what I'm NOT looking for, however I'm struggling to find the right thing. I need space under the bed for storing large items (dead hookers, suitcases full of drugs and cash) so divan is out as is anything with drawers or a slatted/open headboard.
Can anyone recommend a 'John Ryan' style no-bullst site for frames?

After 3 months it feels more worn out than the Gold. Sold to me as a 'no turn', it has to be rotated (laterally) weekly at first. Had I known that I'd not have bought it tbh.
We genuinely didn't know what mattress to get.
Ordered a Simba, liked it but wasn't sure if others were better so we returned it within the 100 day period.
Then ordered an Eve one. Didn't like it as much so sent it back.
Then saw a Simba in a local charity furniture shop (a charity we support as it happens). In fact they had a whole stack of Simbas in there. The Simba label was removed but they were identifiable. We bought one for £175. Despite it looking as good as new (well it would be as it had to have been less than 100 days old), we opted to get it professionally cleaned for £50.
So we saved £475!
Couple of other points:
- The Eve mattress had less usable space - because of the soft edges a king was more like a double. With the Simba, you can sleep right up to the edge.
- With Eve/Simba/Caspa etc, they come shrink-wrapped in a box, so you don't need to time it to have new mattress in on the same day you get rid of the old one. You can simply store the new one in it's box until ready to use it.

Can you post which charity shop it was please? I went into a local Age Concern & they only had ordinary mattresses from Dreamland.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
