We returned our John Ryan. Was not wearing well and turning it was a royal PITA as it must have been close on 100kg.

We now have a memory foam mattress and its loads better.
I went John Ryan and loving it. Correct it's a big bugger even as only a double. Doubt I could manhandle it on my own.

It does settle but I flip and turn it every month.

Out of interest what wasn't wearing well?

My side has flattened down as I live alone but don't sleep on the right side of the bed for some reason frown

Our was super king so was a total b'strd to turn.
It was developing quite bad depressions - strangely on my wifes side was worse and she is 3 stone lighter than me.
The middle was really nice but after only a few weeks it was defo not right.

They offered to swap it or give a refund and we went for the refund as they said the swap was a one time only swap.

They collected it without fuss though.

We've had one for around three months now, I love it.

I called home its a vi spring membury large emperor, turns out its actually bigger than I thought its 215cm x 217cm, I always thought it was square, I also see from the spec its 85kg. It was about £3k, but as I spend a third of my life on it why be cheap about it
Thanks.

Much appreciated.

What's the smell like?
We're thinking of getting one, but some reviews said it took weeks to air out.

No such problems experienced with ours.

Well I placed the order for a John Ryan Artisan 1500 last week, superking zip and link, hope it's as good as it sounds. Counting down the four weeks to delivery now.

The fact that it's zip and link should hopefully mean it's easier to turn.

There's a rubbery sort of smell from it for the first week, It's not overpowering or particularly unpleasant - Open a window.

We bought one but it's gone back and been refunded. Just too firm for us, way too firm.

Didn't really notice any problem with the smell though after the first day.

Anyone know whether these Simba mattresses are any good? Supposedly several different layers and some springs, although the marketing looks the same as eve/Casper/Leesa/etc.

That's the main reason for buying it, loft conversion = not a hope in hell of getting a normal superking up the stairs.

I'm thinking of sending mine back aswell. Like you said it's far to firm to a point of giving me a bad back.

We have a Tempur topped mattress. Springs went far too quickly and the temp thing is not solvable. When it's cold my back sweats and the front covered by the duvet is too cold. Solution arrives Wednesday. A John Lewis 14000 spring Mattress. Let you know how it goes.

Just had a tempur sensation delivered.
It irritates me that it costs so much, but its very comfortable.

Tried a couple of Tempurs in a shop and found them too soft. Very comfortable at first - but I think I would struggle to sleep with sinking in so deeply that I was surrounded by a wall of mattress!

We got an Eve delivered last week. So far I'd say it's decent. It doesn't have that immediate "ahhhh" feeling of a Tempur, but as above I'm not convinced that feeling lasts.
It's quite firm, but I like that. I have seen a few reviews where people said you need to give it a couple of weeks before making up your mind - so that's what I'm doing.
Oh and also it does smell! Not a pleasant smell, and it has stuck to all of our bedding. But I think that's unavoidable with a new foam mattress.

Also a recommendation for anyone else that sleeps on their side and has broad shoulders. Try this pillow (7cm version): https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KIT3Q7W/
After years of uncomfortably folding/scrunching up a pillow to reach the required height, I got one of these last week and it's great! It has quite a firm foam core, but is nicely padded around the core. So you get a nice soft/squishy pillow which doesn't collapse too far. I would maybe like it to be just a teeny bit taller/firmer, but it's easily the best pillow I've ever used.

I spent £1200 on a Tempur mattress, it went back 1 week later. Hateful thing, I can only liken it to sleeping on a an old orange bit of foam nailed to a pallet.

Went back to pocket sprung, far comfier.

It's probably my old one hehe

The guys who came to collect it, who were just from a courier company, not from Eve, walked in and said "so, too firm then, or too hot?" I queried and they said they spend all day picking up Eve mattresses and those are the two reasons everyone gives when they return them. I asked what happens to the returns. He said they stitch a new cover on and send them out again as a new mattress. He then looked at mine closely and pointed out some stitching, which I'd never have looked at, and said "there, you can see where it's been done, this one has already been returned before".

That's interesting. I wonder if it could be the reason some have "new foam smell" and others don't?

We're also getting a Leesa mattress to try, to see which we like best. I remember reading on their website that they give returns to local charities (as well as donating 1 mattress to a homeless shelter for every 10 sold) which I thought was a smart use for them.
