That's interesting. I wonder if it could be the reason some have "new foam smell" and others don't?

We're also getting a Leesa mattress to try, to see which we like best. I remember reading on their website that they give returns to local charities (as well as donating 1 mattress to a homeless shelter for every 10 sold) which I thought was a smart use for them.
Be very interested to hear whether the Leesa is better/worse/same.

I also contacted Simba last week, as they do actually have some springs in them. Apparently they are available to try in John Lewis so may do that.

We bought a silent night geltex affinity 1850, in short a very supportive firm thick pocket sprung base topped with a soft topper which has gel pockets woven into it. A very comfy mattress and I had shrugged off the geltex thing as a gimmick but it really does work keeping the mattress cool in summer.

It is a Very very heavy mattress though and barely flexes, making it up the stairs a 3 man job.

Not had any depressions in it in 3 years, and I'm 6ft 4 and 16 stone. You can sit on the edge of it too and it doesnt sink either. Very happy with it.

The thing that gets me about getting a new mattress is once you've got your new one on trial and disposed of the old one, what do people do when they send the uncomfortable trial one back?

Do you co-ordinate it so you've got the new one in place before the trial one is collected??

Just wondering

If it's a 100 day trial, there's plenty of time to try a couple out before choosing one and returning the others.

The 14000 spring Mattress has been in situ for a week or so. First thing is less aches and pains so getting up is better on a Morning. Still a bit stiff but it is more comfortable by a mile. Cooler generally even with the "wool" side up but does warm up quicker when you move. Not sweating like the "old" foam top left me. Overall getting a better nights sleep.

We've ordered the John Ryan one - our current mattress was 2000 spring and fit for fatties which we're not

I cannot wait for it to be delivered smile))

We've had ours for nearly two weeks, very pleased. Took a bit of getting used to a first, guess it was just unfamiliar, but now I'm sleeping well. Surprised by how much it settled i.e. formed a dip where I sleep, but apparently this is the norm for high end mattresses due to the large amount of filling in the layers above the springs, we'll turn it regularly to keep things even. As well as the mattress we got a wool topper and a goose down duvet, so cosy cloud9

Just caught up with this and sparked interest. Haven't bought a new mattress for donkey's decades and am in the process of renewing everything in our bedroom. Except of course for my wife.

Bought a wonderful solid oak sleigh bed and looking for a mattress but totally unaware of trade tricks and differences in construction. Seen many adverts including the description 'New Condition'. Saw the earlier post on here about renewing outer covers of returns.

Didn't fancy sleeping on an essentially used bed so emailed a well known supplier (v. famous trade name) saying: "I've seen descriptions containing 'New Condition' and need confirmation that all your products offered for sale are brand new". The reply: " We are unable to recommend a suitable bed for you as personal requirements are so varied. We suggest you visit suppliers' stores to see which beds most suit your needs". Hardly confidence inspiring when they answer a different question to the one asked.

We also tried one in JL a few days ago and of all that we have tried, this is the one we're most likely to go for. Superking out of stock for a few days apparently.

Do you find that you get "mattress blindness" though, in that other than the really awful ones, you lie on several and in the end can't decide which is comfortable and which isn't? hehe

As above, I need to write to them and ensure that we're getting a "new" one!

It's be said before but...

https://johnryanbydesign.co.uk/

Not only do they sell some great mattresses but they also have masses of detail on their website about all the tricks of the trade, myths and gimmicks as well as everything about mattresses you never knew you wanted to know. When you decide what you might like give them a ring and talk through it with them, straight talking and absolutely no pressure to make a purchase in fact they don't even do sales over the phone, once you've decided what you want you go back to the website to order. Very refreshing in this day and age.

Sticks.

I tried several in JL and, with the help of the seemingly knowledgeable assistant opted for a 7000 pocket sprung, firm tension.

What was delivered might have well as been a bag of planks it was so hard. I went back to the shop thinking 'how could I?' but the display model was quite different.

It is softening a bit, and I am used to it, a bit but I'll be going back to JL tomorrow for another test. I'l decide what to do after that.

Just to be aware.

That's probably the one I sent back last week. Would recommend you get it deep cleaned after... the incident.

That's exactly what I was looking for and all that I needed. Brilliant, thanks for that.

I'm in the precess of "bedding in" a 6000 spring one. It certainly feels firmer than the one in the shop, but is softer now than when it first arrived. I think it's just a case of giving it time.

Thanks, yes. How long have you had it?

Thanks to advice on here I have now ordered a belter from John Ryan. Oh, and sourced a hammock for the wife. It's been such a long time since she was in a sailor's bed, nothing like nostalgia.

One word: Wow

From the first night i have slept much better, maybe my other mattress was totally wrong for my shape but the new mattress from John Ryan (standard 1500 spring) is absolutely amazing.

Big thanks to whoever's post i read who pointed me in their direction smile))))
