Has anyone done any M car specific driving lessons (without using their own car)? The only thing I can find is the performance track package here https://grrc.goodwood.com/driving-at-goodwood/perf...

I want to be able to drive an M5/M6 where I can learn the limits.

He'll show you how to drive your M5 and by all accounts is very good.

Those Don Palmer days are superb, you would learn a lot in a short time and be a safer, more confident road driver as a result.

You would need a new set of tyres afterwards though!!

Funny enough I was looking through various websites about car control etc before I saw this thread. Had a read through Total Car Control website and Don Palmer.
Since my days where I owned lighter cars with slightly less power and no traction control I've lost the confidence in letting the back end drift at higher speeds on track so I'm thinking about having some tuition so I can explore the limits more.
Last track day I did last year in my E60 M5 I ran it in MDM but didn't turn the traction control off! Years ago when tracking my Sierra Cosworth I was quite happy to get the tail out now and then when exploring the limits but I find the E60 M5 feels to heavy and powerful to start exploring to the point where it's breaking away on a track plus I'm so used to driving with DSC on!!

Thanks for the replies. I am really looking for one where you don't use your own car and I don't have to worry about screwing up my tyres, brakes etc; maybe something like the AMG driving experiences.

You're just not going to get the tuition I think you're after on those "experience" days, if you want to splash out BMW do this:

Various courses right up to hooning round the ring with instructors.

Porsche do various tuition courses (in their cars) at their experience centre next to Silverstone.

For road driving or track driving?

For general experience in driving at or near the limit, I'd recommend as much time in the driving seat of anything quick, with some tuition thrown in. From what I've seen, hiring a Caterham at Bedford Autodrome for a day looks like excellent value and instead of a mere 50mins on track (as per the AMG experience) you'd find yourself in the driving seat for a lot longer.

Recommended.

You learn an awful lot more about these cars than you possibly could whilst driving at sane speeds on normal roads.

Time for a bit of gratuitous Youtube/Nordschleifery, with BMW Driving Experience.

This was the last time the E92 (Competition Package) featured in BMW's Nordschleife training programme, in August 2013. Those were the days......

https://youtu.be/5VCPtI9sQQ8

And in my defence, both cars in front had no passenger. Power to weight advantage, and all that. And I was driving with a broken right ankle (true story).

Come on you're pretty good round there I remember you did a 8 minute something lap time IIRC? Silly me that's the vid 8.18 BTG, proper driving.
