I'm having an extension built at the moment, it runs the length of the house with a room at the front, a bathroom at the back and a utility in the middle. The front and back rooms have their own window so get plenty of light, but the utility has turned out to be a bit dark.

I was wondering what my options are, can't put a window in because the wall is up against a fence on the other side, so I think the only option is some kind of skylight. Has anyone fitted a tubular skylight like these http://www.lightwaydaylight.co.uk/?gclid=CjwKEAiAx...

They look nice and bright but I wondered if they're really like that, or if there are any pitfalls, also installation costs.

Cheers

Been looking at these as well, more commonly known as a "sun tunnel".
Velux amongst others also make them.

not actually fitted one but have been in a customers houses where they have them. I was quite impressed - not as much light as a traditional skylight but a couple in a 20 foot hallway (with no other light) was plenty enough light to not need to turn the lights on.

I've got a Velux one.

It was fitted in a room with no other options to increase the amount of light.

Works very well and actually exceeded our expectations.

Is it worth doing anything for a room that you will only use to load and unload a washing machine?

I too have a Velux sun tunnel. The 14" one I think, with flexible tunnel. Fantastic, great amount of light.

I was rinsed with the fitting of the roof piece I think - £600, live and learn - and the ceiling end was slightly complicated as the ceiling rose (it's not really a ceiling rose but that's descriptive enough) was slightly wider than the gap between the joists and so needed some framing out.

I'd fit another again though. Hope that helps.

Thanks, that's good to know they're pretty good. What about supply and install costs, is £500-600 about right?
