I'm using clear.Having shelled out for the Textrol I wasn't happy with my prep using Jeyes.
So having a bash with the Caustic Soda method today and so far very impressed. All the remaining oil in the grooves turned to gunk and was easy to blast away. Couldn't get my hands on Oxalic Acid locally so got some Bar Keepers friend which has plenty in and will use that to neutralise in a minute.

Wondering if I have overdone things.....followed the suggestions of 50g caustic soda per litre water, scrubbed in, left 15 mins then Oxalis acid for 15 mins before hosing off....and my deck looks exceedingly bleeched. & yet at the same time, in need of some more scrubbing in places...
Guess I will have to get some oil on soon to revive it!
Think I have some liberon in the garage I planned to put on a year or two back....hoping it is okay - I saw S-Express had less than great experience....I thought liberon was fairly well regarded...I imagine Osmo probably do some good stuff.....

Hows it look now - having dried a little.... I remember happing it once, but it stabilised once some time had passed. Then after oxyclean during rinse:
Looked promising whilst wet after wash:
& finally, today: actually looks more bleached in real life:
Cheers!

I'm sure you guys all know this already but a quick reminder that oxalic acid is poisonous so go carefully and keep the pets well away. Also from the caustic soda of course - which is Sodium Hydroxide (think the alkali version of Sulphuric acid and you get the picture).
Both will ruin your day if you are not careful!

Yup: pet free here (& even shooed the robins away...although to be fair they mostly prefer digging around the soil rather than decking!!). & yes, despite wearing shorts, I took enough care ;-)Both will ruin your day if you are not careful!

Quite satisfying how effective the caustic soda mix was - thanks to Paddy for that original suggestion (I haven't used that since 'decoking' my old moped exhaust about 35 years ago!!)
I suspect oiling it (when we have some very fine weather for a couple of days & time to do it!) will revive the deck.
Might depend if you have nice smooth boards, or those like mine, with ridges.....
If smooth, you could perhaps use a deck paint pad....
I suspect for mine, the only real option will be a fence brush
That said....I bet brushing will be the best way to get it soaked in. Perfection, sadly, will take time. And backache....and sore knees.....aiiiii !!

For all those contemplating using Net-Trol, I've had nothing but a positive experience of using it. Wet the deck, paste it on neat and leave 20mins. Give it a further good scrub then wash off. Leaves a lovely stain free deck ready for coating
I have less positive things to say about Liberon. I tried it on a small step area last year and it was awful stuff. This was Liberon clear oil on a softwood deck not the coloured stuff.
It went on well but was greasy and looked awful.
Bought Ronseal natural oil which is much better and looks good. Really disappointed with the Liberon stuff as their products saved my last deck in my old house.
