Wickes are anything but cheap they wanted £24k+ to do ours and that included crap appliances. I've spent just less then £14k so far including Neff appliances and Silestone Quartz worktops re-plastered, a complete re-wire including new distribution board and pulling 2 new feeds for the ovens. I haven't done the floor tiles yet though.
I sourced all components and services myself. Only thing I did was strip out the old kitchen.

We bought the units from DIY kitchens and are very impressed with their quality. Our joiner was also impressed with their quality.

It's nearly finished but these should give you an idea of what we have done.

I'm between Ely and Cambridge.

I bought the worktops through http://www.graniteearth.co.uk/ but it was actually http://www.cambrianyorkshire.co.uk/ who measured up and installed them. They will travel anywhere to install and have done a spot on job.

The tops are solid 30mm Quartz with 100mm upstands, a 900x650 splash back and windowsill. They were £2,929.63 fitted.

If you want to go several steps up from DIY Kitchens.com, buy your cabinets from www.solidwoodkitchencabinets.co.uk.

The quality is frankly excellent. Machine made, but frankly comparable to stuff I saw at bespoke kitchen companies. In fact better than some - I had quotes from some bespoke companies who use veneered chipboard in bits of their their very expensive kitchens, rather than the solid oak that these cabinets use. The kit arrived a few days ago - they are lovely things. The paint finish in the custom colour (F&B Mouse's Back, for anyone who is interested in that sort of thing) is excellent too. Only thing, being solid wood throughout, they are heavy. Make sure that when you wall mount them, you do so properly!

Also (and this is important) their customer service has been excellent when I have wanted to alter the order, arrange delivery etc. Delivery drivers were excellent: on time, courteous and helpful.

DIY Kitchens, who I used for larder & pull-out units, were good at customer services (they have a fairly good online helpdesk system as well as telephone service), but their delivery drivers were awful. Late, kept forgetting things and having to come back, and were actually rude to Lady Flashman despite all the cock-ups being entirely their fault. This has prompted me to complain, and means that I will not use the company again unless they apologise.

Actually I admit I was surprised at the surly Eastern Europeans that turned up to deliver mine, they weren't rude but they weren't friendly or helpful either.

They wanted to get it off their lorry and get going, I asked for a manifest which they said they didn't have, then at the end, they asked me to sign one - which I did - as "unchecked" because by then they were stacked in my garage and couldn't even be counted.

They do give 10 days to report loss / damage though.

Here you go, links went a bit wonky! That looks very nice, will have to consider that place if we ever replace our current kitchen. One thing I would say is definitely don't go for wooden tops, they're a pain in the backside! Current house has them and I'm already fedup of sanding and re-oiling them, just get wood effect if you're that keen!

Ours were good, I'd printed off the order before hand and ticked it off as it went into the garage. They had a quick brew and a natter then disappeared.

Thread re-hash...

Been pricing stuff up this morning, and for an equivalent kitchen (units only) Wickes wanted £3372, and DIY Kitchens £3235, and I get the feeling I can haggle a bit more off the Wickes price if I wanted hopefully to £3k. The Wickes kitchen is also acrylic doors which are supposed to be better than the high gloss painted ones DIY kitchens do. Is there any truth in this?

Which Wickes kitchen and which DIY ?

Because when I priced identical spec units they were double the price.

Wickes - http://www.wickes.co.uk/kitchen/contemporary-kitch...

Wickes are on sale at the moment, and I did flirt with the girl who was designing it. hehe DIY Kitchens dont appear to do any discounts at all, and then prices are ex VAT until the end which I wasnt aware of.

Don't forget that the DIY kitchen price includes door and drawer fitting, saves a LOT of time.

The cabinets and doors for the style we have from DIY were much better quality then Wickes and came with soft closing.
Ours were much cheaper than Wickes. We also got 10% off.

If it's Wickes stuff you prefer try giving benchmarks a call. They make Wickes kitchens and quoted a bit cheaper than DIY. You will need to know someone in the trade to get a quote though.

Better, would depend on what you where looking for, but Acrylic faced doors are very high gloss and very flat.

A quick look seems to show:

DIY 1000 base unit (permanent 10% sale) £108+VAT = £129.60
Wickes (from the Spring Sale price list) = £214

What price list are you looking at ?

The printed quote from Wickes I have in front of me. Sale is 50% off list, then a further 20% which the sales girl added, then managers discount of £250 and there was probably a bit more to come had I pushed and offered to buy today.

I was about to post the same, we were very happy with both the kitchen and service provided.
