Nice job, I found the patio cleaner attachment a waste of time on mine as well, used the attachment that spins on a single point.
After sweeping in the kiln-dried sand I used multicrete block paving stabiliser to good effect. Properly hardens up the sand so it should stay put but still allows the water to drain through. Cant comment on the longevity yet, as it was done recently.
