Looking for Garden Shed/Log Cabin/Garden Office ideas
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm moving to a new place shortly and top of the list of things to get done is some sort of garden shed/log cabin/garden office.
I've looked at some old-ish threads on here and there are some good ideas/thought - just wonder if someone had done one recently.
I'm thinking of something up to 4m x 3m. I know I can buy an "Eco Lodge" or whatever for £10k+ but I think I'd rather get a shiplap shed/log cabin for £1.5k-ish (making sure it's double glazed) and insulate it.
Has anyone done this? Any advice/guidance?
Thanks in advance.

I had the option of having it done by the supplier and decided to do my own later. Wished I had just paid the supplier, as I spent a weekend of my life doing it and it cost me more to buy the materials than the the supplier quote.
Unless you are in the trade, the big suppliers have scale and obviously dont pay the prices we do. Go to one of the big volume vendors and get a kit, they are often good VFM

Counter to Bogie, I love making something up myself, the satisfaction from creating something with your hands is awesome.
Not built anything quite like you want but a couple of my builds over here...

If you can get a good deal on scaffold boards it's a cheap way to go.

We had a Dunster House log cabin - didn't need the insulated option, but nice kit.
If you look at https://dunsterhouse.co.uk/premiumplus-lantera-sun... as an example of one a bit bigger than you need (& I would ALWAYS go as big as you can!), fully insulated with 130mm walls and bells+whistles, you are still only up to £5,500.
They would charge 2K to install, but that is a fun job for you!

You're eating into my R53 Cooper S budget though :-)
I have just ordered this one, gets delivered second week in July.

Seems like a more palatable price point than similar from the likes of GBC (Who I bought my main garden shed from).

I wouldnt go shiplap, make sure its proper interlocking logs. Dont need to worry about insulating walls, just do the floor and roof, as thats were the vast amount of heatloss is in a log-cabin.
Honestly don't know why anyone would buy shiplap fence let alone a shiplap shed. They might be cheap but you would be better off buying one made of balsa wood.My local builders merchants calls them stlap and thats about right.
I'm getting a 4 x 5m 'outside building' built by a builder.
Externally the frame will have a water-proof membrane covered with concrete cladding (looks like painted wooden weather boarding but it's maintenance free)
100mm of insulation to floor, roof and walls.
Internal walls and ceiling boarded out, plaster boarded and plastered.
Roof covered with rubberoid(?) (guaranteed for 20 years)
2 x 800x800 double glazed windows and 1 x set of double glazed French doors.
£5.5k
Electrics and final finishing (internal decorating, skirtings, etc) are down to me to do or extra.

LOL! Well, I did spec the full insulation.....AND give you a bigger cabin than you asked for.....there is wiggle room in that spec You're eating into my R53 Cooper S budget though :-)
Installed cabin. £6.5-7k. Run out facelift 2007 MCS.....£6.5-£7k.
