I honesty thought it was an office table and the "Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen shaker table with a set of six Arne Jacobsen Ant chairs" description was a dig at the usual PH willy wavers.
Apparently it was originally designed for a hotel.
Not everyone will like Scandinavian design - I love the minimalist look though, and Danish stuff is always top notch in quality. The table does look good with a set of multi-coloured ant chairs (don't have a pic to hand yet). Apparently it was originally designed for a hotel.
I have a dark oak, table I inherited from my grandparents. Nice patina, it wouldn't cost much in an auction.
I'd really like to make an aluminium honeycomb one, with carbon fibre legs... Though realistically it will be a desk rather than a dining table. Shouldn't be too expensive or difficult to do. Waiting for the next house to do this, but hopefully in the next 12 month or so.

If it floats your boat, H and F make a very similar table at a better price.

Here's our table, it's also larger than you said you want and yes, it's the actual table from the last supper. My wife saw it in a lovely little shop in Tuscany (where we have a villa with large swimming pool) and simply had to have it. Yes, it was expensive but we can afford it and we're worth it.

We have this from dwell. Really good quality and easy extending, we've had 12 squashed round it for Christmas. They do a non extending version for about 400.
My only complaint would be the leg space for the end chairs. There is enough room for sitting for dinner, but you can only tuck the chairs in so far. A lot of stuff from dwell isn't always great, but this has proved good.
Liking the Heals tables - same situation as you and looking for a 8-10 seater rectangular table. Just not sure how comfy the Heals chairs will be.

And something far more realistic...
Whatever you buy your family will pile it with washing, books, nik naks and stuff to 'put away later'. And your dining room will contain two motorbikes and a hard top.
Table is solid pine with an extending insert that if not stored in the table would be lost at the back of a shed and be a different colour from the rest. Six chairs and two Carvers. I've had 12 at the table before. Cost...£12.00 from EBay. Had to pick it up five miles away.
