Thought this might be fun, must have been plenty of people DIY'ing this weekend. Show us your efforts?

My first attempt at Decking, pretty pleased with the result (there was some decking from the previous owners present you can see what I have added):

Painted and tidied...

Also put a small raised bed in for the wife:

Layout:

Finished and painted:

I also carried on rebuilding my brother in laws engine in between this as well. Lovely weekend in all biggrin

It has been discussed but she has a plan, she apparently likes the blocks and that is the them for that side of the garden, to be fair I take up two thirds of it with my workshop, cars and shed so she is the boss for that lot and I do as I am told and like what I am told winkhehe

Used up some old decking (& old wood oil) to make a planter box to screen the bins....plus another planter......

(did finish round the planter bed but failed to take a piccy!)
Nice weather for it!

(edit - no idea why tinypic doesn't like the rotation....& yes, after I oiled it I think I preferred the unoiled rustic look.....I guess it will weather by next year!!)

I started putting a deck in last week and have carried on with that - although I'm on paternity leave so not strictly a bank holiday project.

Finally got all the posts concreted in this morning and then did a bit of tidying in the garden with my new strimmer (600W power and 300mm cutting diameter, it's amazing!) whilst the Somerset sun was blazing,

and then cracked on with some work this afternoon.

Got my fancy saw mounted on the hob off cut from the worktop I installed last year (40mm oak, should be sturdy) and got sawing. This thing goes through timber like its not even there!

Didn't take long to get the joist leading to the back door fitted. Lots of 5" nails keep them snug.

And then put some boards down as a trial fit. I reckon it'll be grand when it's done.

Hopefully I get a good run at it tomorrow and can give you a finished photo shortly, will move the deck planks tomorrow so I can put the weed membrane down and then finish the joists up - few noggins and away we go with about 6,000 bloody screws!!

Cutting rebar, setting up the base columns for my deck posts and getting them in line, I need to get the concrete pour booked so I can get the post forms screwed to the bases and then the holes backfilled.

Running SWA cable at the same time for the shed and lights.

I'm going out to the 3rd line of string that you can just about make out, those posts will be about 2m tall

I figured a cheap angle grinder would be quicker than a hacksaw, it only lasted 4 cuts of rebar before needing a trip back to screwfix for a replacement!

17 columns, 10 inches in diameter and 4 foot deep. Each with one of these at the bottom

How are you getting on with the replacement grinder? I bought a Challenge (I think) from Homebase last year, it's the cheapest 9" one they do and it's cut steel and concrete lintels, rebar, and a load of solid brick wall for me to open up some new door ways - you could do worse than one of those. It's nothing special but it does the job.

Swapped it for a 4 1/2" erbauer, it's cut the rest so much easier than the first one did, it probably won't get much use at all again though!

Loving the efforts! Scaffold plank table is a good idea, I might copy it for something similar to go on our new decking!
