Just spent a month sleeping every night on an American mattress called a Chatham and Mills, I think.

Slept like a baby unlike on my Hypnos mattress at home where the aches and pains have me awake within 4 hours.

The Hypnos I bought from a supplier to a hotel chain after a good 3 nights sleep on the same at a Holiday Inn. It was surprisingly cheap for a 4'6", about £200 and it did give good service but for only a couple of years.

Now the American make is around $2000 plus so just wanted some recommendations that won't break the bank.

Please no Tempur type memory foam as they make me sweat something chronic.

Cheers

I think you can buy mattresses off one of the hotel chains, maybe Premier Inn at quite a reasonable price and they are supposed to be very good. There was a thread on here about them.

i'm probably wrong and they are council or something,

This page will answer a few questions......

http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk/understanding...

I have a Superking Artisan Naturals upstairs still in the packaging - waiting for carpets to go down before I make the new bed frame up.

I slept on the Premier Inn mattress over the weekend and it is too firm for me. I was waiting to see if it was any good as I need a new one, but I was disappointed.

I've just ordered one from Ikea as I have slept on one fine at the family holiday home.

Our Ikea firm double (sprung,no memory foam) was used by myself for 18 months, and is now in the spare. Always gets compliments for how comfy it is.

So we've just got rid (sold on gumtree!) Of our 1 yr old family-furniture store king and replaced it with the updated Ikea sprung, no foam king. 250 quid, and comes in a very compact roll. It's great. Be interested to see how it holds up in the long term, but even a few years and it'll be worth it, especially as it's so easy to fit another in the boot.

I rate Ikea with a good topper - good value and returns policy IIRC.

After I deveoped back issues with a subsiding Sleepmasters mattress I tried many different kinds and finally found one that works - latex. http://www.latexsense.co.uk/?CAWELAID=120173270000...

ViSpring make extremely fine mattresses, but they are not cheap. No bed I have ever slept in is as comfortable as the ViSprings I have had.

I also have an Ikea matress and it's great. They have a 100 night guarantee I belive so if you don't get on with it you can get it changed or get your money back.

I spent three months in a French hotel which had a fantastic mattress, a ViSpring was the closest I found to it, pricey but well worth the cost.

Vi Spring.

Did you get that?

Vi Spring.

Just been through a whole 4 year cycle of disappointment. Vi-Spring to foam to Vi-Spring via solid base and sprung edge divans.
Put your Vi-spring on either a Vi-Spring divan or a John Ryan divan. If Vi-Spring is too expensive, then try John Ryan pocket spring. Accept nothing less.

Read up about spring firmness etc and choose accordingly.

Why did you change from Vi-Spring in the first place?

Springs are fine, it's all the padding and layers of deluxe clag on top that cause the problem.

I think John Ryan - already linked to earlier as Factory Beds Direct - aim to make mattresses comparable to Vi-Spring for half the Vi-Spring discounted cost.

Because of a complete f**k up by both me and the mother of our children. It's a long story, but I thought I'd try something different and bought a foam mattress as I thought it would help my wife's chronic back pain problem. After a trial period, so did she.

Wrong.

Now back to a proper bed. Both much more comfortable. An expensive mistake.

Was going to buy a John Ryan mattress, then found a small furniture shop in crickhowel that did the compatible ViSprung delivered for a similar price

Can any of these suggested mattresses work on a wooden frame slatted bed?
