Is anyone else totally appalled by the cheapening of music like this?

I can’t believe that the memory of a great song is forever tainted. For me, now, whenever I hear ‘another one bites the dust’, in my head will be the horrifying ‘another one drives a Duster.’ Really, how badly can they need more money?

Wasn't the latter written FOR a Coke ad?

Presumably the people 'wrecking' these songs do so with the permission of the rights holders? It's their song, not ours.

It doesn't bother me - What Paul Young did to "Love Will Tear Us Apart" or Maria Carey to "Without You" is far worse! biggrin

That is my point really. Have the writers no shame? I am sure there is really good money to be made in this way, but what of dignity and musical integrity?

Totally with you on Mariah and 'Without You'! Actually that whole genre of 'olympic gymnastics' style if singing makes me feel like I am being attacked by a wasp!

You do remember that Brian May and Roger Taylor allowed 5ive to cover, alter and release We Will Rock You?

Not only that, they appeared in the fking video. They've had no shame for 20 odd years hehe

You hold music in high esteem.

Why? It's not the meaning of life, it's only music.

You'll be saying you like tennis next...hehe

Plus 'Everything Thing We Do (Is Driven By You)' for Ford back in the 90s.

Yes, you're right, I do hold music in high esteem. It is what I do for a living, every night I perform 3 hours of covers, solo, in a crowded English pub venue on a cruise ship. I have been going this 20 yeas now, and I suppose I have performed some songs thousands of times, and some of them take on a real meaning in my life. I feel that to do my job well I have to be sincere about what I am doing. That is why 'another one drives a duster' has really rather embarrassed me, as an entertainer. If I had the original in my repetoire, I would have dropped it for sure!

Oh, and I do quite like tennis!

In the late 60s Eric Burdon and the Animals had a hit (mainly across the Pond) with their song 'Monterey'.
Re the comment above, many people (most?) relate to music as important. Very important for some.
I certainly would find it difficult to live without.

One verse sticks with me.

'You wanna find the truth in life
Don't pass music by
And you know
I would not lie.'

There was a bit of a trend for that back then, I seem to recall David Dundas had a hit with "Blue Jeans" where he sang "I put my blue jeans on" instead of "I put Brutus jeans on".

Erm, Teenage Dirtbag (a) by the sweetest sounding church choir*, and (b) for a dating website advert, is just wronger than something very wrong in the wrong place for the wrong reasons. And it's wrong. I didn't even like the original anyway but this is, did I mention, wrong.

*I can't stand nicey-nicey high pitched choir music anyway/either. The other one I hated was some song for a bank or building society.

This is not going well is it!

I quite like the advert.

The advertisers do too. The fact that every time you hear Queen, you think of Dacia proves they've managed to get it right.

Anyways, it's not like it's the first ad that even puts music and products together forever. Driven by you / Ford. Takes my breath away / incendiary Pugeots. The Ramones / A fking O. That formerly good Fleetwood Mac tune / Marks and fking spencer.

There's far worse things that have happened, lets be honest =)

They have certainly NOT managed to get it right! If I was unfortunate enough to be considering a car in this market, I would rule out a Dacia immediately due to the terrible ad.........

Of course there are far worse things that have happened. Rosberg's move on Sunday, for example......

er, ok. a Dacia Duster is not exactly a brand new Riva speedboat is it, Dacia are hardly doing any damage to a high profile, high value brand by having a cheesy advert!

Just Eat has increased sales by many % by cheerfully singing "Chicken Madras" in a highly annoying way. If this mass appeal works for Dacia, then good luck to them.

The VX220 struggled with the Griff Rhys-Jones in his pants ad....no bad music though, as far as I can remember. BTW that Ford advert with the @everything We Do...' soundtrack was great, as was 'Take My Breath Away'!
