Look on Ebay for price guide, advertise it well on there to get rid of it. Sadly they are like new cars, a few months use and suffer massive depreciation, but not much mattress more than a decent nights sleep.

Let's face it blokes will buy and sleep on a secondhand matress but women are usually a little more fussy. I think if you word the advert like you have here you will at least have some interest. Bearing in mind it will need to be lifted and shifted and these 'quality' items weigh a tonne. We also bought a firm matress which my wife said she thought would be uncomfortable but now loves the whole bedroom 'experience'.

I would have had it for our spare room but we only have a double bed. I know a lot of people seem to buy Super Kings as some sort of statement but unless you have a Victorian sized room they leave very little room to walk around them. My brother got a Super King but there is no floor room left. Mind you he did the same with his sofas and realised they would not fit in any normal type layout.

Best of luck with sale and your replacement.

Pip
Ps any link to the wool toppers. We have a topper but I do not think it is wool/cashmere.

Thanks Pip. We still have room to walk around the bed although it does take up a lot of space. Main reason for buying it really was bed space; we'd stayed in lots of hotels with big beds and just wanted to be able to have plenty of space without being on top of each other (well, not all the time!)

You're 100% correct, it weighs a ton. Thanks for the feedback on selling (and from everyone else), I guess we will find the replacement then try and sell it after that. Given the list price is £1699, I guess if we got £250 back we'd be doing well.

I hired a transit van to pick up a couple of single mattresses from Ikea - I couldn't believe it when the automatic lift came down with two packages the size of rolled up sleeping bags! The would have fitted in the back of the OH's mini.

We have just ordered a new mattress from a company my wife uses to supply the hotel she manages (they manufacture them for the hotel trade); I've slept in the hotel quite a few times and always found the beds to be super comfy (it's an expensive "boutique" hotel) - £297 for a king which is a bargain as our current mattress (sealy) cost the same and is pretty poor

To the OP; I'm sure a well worded advert on eBay would generate interest.
Any chance of a name/brand? I flipped my mattress over the other day and it looks like it's been slept on for 30 years or so... it's 3 years old!

Sticks.

I still haven't taken the plunge on a new mattress, for the reasons the OP describes.

I went to John Lewis he other day as I'm told the 'Natural Collection' mattresses are Harrisons which I've had for years. The chap was pretty helpful. Given that I didn't want wool or cashmere (too warm) and an orthopaedic one was too hard, it just left the balance of pocket springs/price and whether to go for normal/firm. The salesman gave guidance on what he thought was right looking at my posture on it.

They do have zip link ones, I don't know if they do different firmness for each side.

The salesman said one brand did let you have one for a trial period, but it was the most expensive, predictably.

Their special offer isn't worth rushing at imho. For the same price as a 6000 spring, you get a 7000 spring etc, which won't make a huge difference I'd have thought.

Maybe I should find a Premier Inn.....

Getting the John Lewis 12000 Spring King size as ours never suited me and basically feels like the springs it has are shot. Anybody had any of these?

I looked at the John Lewis mattresses but they all seem to be "no turn" which actually turns out to be a bit of a con as they only put the full set of fillings in one side of the mattress. You're therefore buying a mattress with less physical material in it than an equivalent two sided mattress and as you only sleep on one side of it a single side will wear more quickly than a mattress where the wear is shared between two sides assuming you turn it over from time to time.

Better explanation here: http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk/understanding...

One I am looking at has the turn feature. Having had a "foam" topped bed we were not getting another that couldn't be turned.

Plus (quoting from above website):

1. Our personal guarantee is as simple as: Love it or Return It. for a full refund. No matter how much a bargain it is – it’s useless if it does not meet your expectations or your needs.

2. If within 60 days you are not entirely happy with the product then call us and we will arrange to have it collected and refund you in full: We understand that the mattress will be out of the original packaging (we will send you new packaging) and that it will be used and so forth. It does not matter. Although, in obvious fairness, it must not be damaged, marked or soiled. We do insist upon the use of a mattress protector during this period.

We've bought three of their mattresses, two Artisan Luxury and one Artisan Naturals -all excellent.

Managed to get into a Premier Inn last night for 10 mins, tried the Hypnos. It was ok, but not wow, amazing. That's disappointing. Was on the verge of pulling the trigger on that.

Has anyone tried eve mattresses? evemattress.co.uk Sure, that's a lot of nice bright fancy marketing, but 100 days to return it with no quibble for a full refund seems like quite an offer? Pretty much nothing to lose. What say you fine somniacs of PH?

Ours is on it's way, it's the 12000 spring King Size from John Lewis. I'll let you know if it's good but given what it's replacing it could not be worse.

Just been trying the 6000 spring double at £699, and it's pretty good.

I had a look at the similar 7000 and ordered one in store yesterday. How much difference there is between 6000 and 7000, I don't know.

The salesman said there were medium and firm versions, and if I wanted the firm I'd have to order in store rather than online and delivery would be 6-8 weeks.

Rather than a 10 minute inspection , why not check into a Premier Inn and see if you get a goods nights sleep without back ache?

Yes, we did contemplate that, not ruling it out, it was just that we were hoping to be "wowed" and we weren't.

Anyone any thoughts on the "eve" mattress I mentioned above?

I stayed in a premier inn recently for a wedding. I really didn't think much of the bed at first, but having spent the night, it was probably the best nights sleeps I've had for a long time.

I'll be looking to Hypnos next time I replace my bed...

There are a lot of other Hypnos mattresses though, we tried a few out in the shop before pulling the trigger on ours.
