Thanks for those replies!
Yes, I see the Dormeo is not the same - the one you have is rated (by Dormeo) as medium-soft & as you say, is all foam, the one we were looking at is rated med-firm with springs as well as the memory foam.
We may take a look at Ikea, but frankly I am tempted to give the Costco one a whirl - good to hear some good experiences with this style at least, thanks!

I did once get a half decent nights sleep in a hedge after a long session. Unable to comment.

I can honestly say the John Lewis Mattress has been a massive improvement. I would not go anywhere near a "foam" mattress ever again.

I hear what you're saying, but it is hard to get past the astonishing number of top reviews on the Dolmeo: 113 x 5*, 21 x 4*.....only 1 x 3* & 1 x 1*
& we have slept well on something similar in a holiday cottage in the past.
We will give it a whirl and report back!

(edited to add - looks like it is in this months "Hot Deals' at Costco, a snip at £199 delivered - I'll report back in a few weeks!)

I like memory foam, I prefer them over the air pocket latex mattress we had prior to it.

Just spotted that today is the last day on offer from Costco for the Dormeo, so I thought I would write a mini review.

We have had it nearly 3 weeks now.....and think it is very comfortable. I guess because it has springs and "only" an inch of the foam, it feels like a regular mattress...but we have slept well.

If you buy direct from Dormeo, super king was £700, and has a 15 year guarantee.....with Costco it was a third the price but you only get a Costco guarantee (I think 1 year).
Costco assured me it had a period where we could send it back....not sure how long, but we won't be.
Obviously time will tell how well it lasts and how comfy we are!

Now to get the old one downstairs and on gumtree!

We bought an IKEA mattress at the end of 2014. It's one of their firm ones and we find it hugely comfortable.

We've noticed over the last few months that there are definite "dips" on either side where we sleep, and a ridge in the middle between us. It feels like it's starting to wear out a bit unlike a regular spring matress would.

It was a third of the price, so if it lasts us 4 years instead of 8 it's still good value...!

There are a few exclusions, TVs etc, but I think pretty well everything else is covered by Costco's satisfaction guarantee. Basically you can return it and get your money back for ever. I fancy trying it with tyres. smile

Seems as good a thread as any to bump - we bought a Hyllestad mattress from Ikea, medium-firm, pocket-sprung with a built-in foam top.

I don't know if it's too soft for me, but it feels like it moves around a lot under me, like I'm lying on jelly, and when I get onto it I sink into it a little - I'd rather have a mattress that stays still and I can lie in top of it, although still with some give.

So is this feeling from the medium-firmness or is it the foam top? Trying to gauge what we should exchange it for, it's not always easy to tell by a few seconds lying on it in the showroom.

Previous Ikea mattress was sprung-only, and was great until it wore out although we had it for around 15 years.

As above - we did order it, Superking, but it's too firm. From the (significant) number of mattresses we've now tried, it's become obvious we need a "soft". Closest we've come so far was in Benson's of all places, but we weren't 100% convinced, and we don't want to buy anything else until we are frown
Keep going. I am in the situation where we bought an expensive mattress a while ago now, and haven't slept satisfactorily on it despite topper etc. since we have had it. Mrs Eggs likes the firmness of the matress (granite-like IMHO) and therefore isn't motivated to change it. So there's something of an impasse here. I'm slowly winning, so am watching the thread with interest....

Stupidly firmness really isn't about the comfort it's about how much weight it can carry mixed with how tall you are the comfort comes from the comfort layers not the springs they just provide support

Okay - I'm 6ft5 and 100kg, Mrs Hill is 70kg, so probably go back to firm with no foam layer if this one is too squishy? Could always get a separate topper if we felt we needed it.

You need a split mattress really as the difference between you is so big, Talk to John Ryan by design they have different price points but actually know what they are talking about unlike mattress shops that want to sell you a high spring count pillow topped mattress that will be fked in a few years

If you follow the John Ryan guides, you’d be better in a medium firmness. We recently got one of their mattresses in a medium and if anything it’s almost too firm, and I’m similar size to you

Well we have a very expensive king mattress that is firm on one half and medium on the other- here https://johnryanbydesign.co.uk/product/artisan-bes... (we didn't pay over £3grand though- it was more like £1800)

Neither side is firm enough!

So if anyone has a REALLY firm matter they'd like to swap for ours, that would be great.......

Mrs Hill can sleep on anything so it's really down to me. And we have a Euro size Ikea bed so are sticking with them for now. From what I've gleaned from these threads, price is zero predictor of success in getting a suitable mattress.

Although I'm confused by Ikea's 25 year guarantee against their saying that expected mattress life is 10 years...
