Now I know the first approach should be to talk to the guy, (chap across the road, 2 houses up) but he's a drunk who's been in bother before, have seen the police round at his on a couple of occasions along with a bit about him in the local paper. During the recent thunderstorms lately he shouted 'Oh ya fkin beezer man!!!' at a particularly loud crack of thunder, to give you an idea of what the chap is like. Essentially, it's someone I really don't want to talk to.

His windows and doors are closed but I can still clearly make out Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Soft Cell etc. every bloody day. I can only assume the pensioner next door to him is almost totally deaf or doesn't want the hassle herself. It's a pain as all the other neighbours are spot on, maybe need to mention it to my immediate neighbour and see if he's been bothered by it too.

Is it worth contacting the council about it, can they do much with it?

P.S. I don't think he cares enough about the council-cut grass outside his front door to worry over frozen sausages...

Oh yes - Council ASB (preferably) or Environmental Health. It may take some time (even years) but in the end there are some very powerful steps they can take.

What did the bit in the local paper say?

If it was about attacking a complaining neighbour i'd say he was best avoided.

Can you really hear him in your house 2 doors up, across the street and through two sets of windows?

Can't remember for sure, it was last year some time I think. Whatever it was he had to go to court. Arsing around on the railway line rings a bell but not sure. Estranged wife and daughter was mentioned though.

I'm not sure if he's always played music this loud and I've only just noticed because I'm not on 12 hour shifts any more but I can't ever remember hearing it until a couple of months back.

And yes, granted my windows sound insulation ain't the best though.

Surely the first step (if you don't want to enter into face-to-face situation) would be speak to all of the neighbours on both sides of the road and see what their thoughts are?
Maybe you have acute hearing or poor sound insulation?

Sadly there is little effective way of dealing with scum like this.

Any involvement of authorities will be seen by him as a challenge, which will up the ante with him.

Only way I got rid of an adjoinging scummer was when they crossed the line of the law, the copper next door arrested her, and her father paying the rent figured it would be best all round if he relocated her ot be someone else's problem. Sadly I don't expect you have that option.

It is a council house he's in though, could that not help?

There's only one way to deal effectively with people like this.

AC/DC --> volume to 11 --> drown the f*cker out.

He'd probably give it the 'oh ya fkin beezer!!!' treatment again.

Blimey, The PH Tactics and Strategy group has been thwarted by apartment dwellers. Perhaps poor some syrup down his mail slot to invite ants?

Alternatively, looking at your nick, maybe a nailgun, axe and some plastic tarp is in order?

It's the 'adult' version of this:-

Scottish term, similar to 'aww, ya fkin dancer!'

It means that they are happy with something basically.

If you don't want to confront him, then - assuming your council is the same as mine - they won't investigate a noise order without your contact details. And they won't withold them from him unless you can prove you are genuinely concerned for your safety.

I have noisy neighbours myself - directly attached to my semi detached house. To be fair, it has improved - partly due to me having sound insulation put against my lounge and bedroom walls and partly because there used to be two families, both with kids living in the same house (8 people in total) - and one family moved out about 6 months ago. It turns out they were the really noisy ones - you can tell when they are visiting without even looking to see if their car is outside.

Although it's better, I have to say I still utterly despise them - and if I could get away with it they would be dead. Slowly, and painfully.
