Once had the entire back axle of my Dad's Isuzu pick up lifted from end of the driveway.

Wouldn't have been a problem except for the fact we were ten feet away under the car replacing the leaf springs with the intention of refitting said axle shortly afterwards.

Of course they were lovable transit tipper driving "do you like dags" rogues. To be sure we thought it was scrap! Etc...
I lost the axle of my Opel Manta GTE in the 1980's in a similar scenario. The car was on the drive with the back in the air with the axle on the garden ready to be fixed.

When we were replacing my mums bathroom the 40 year old blue 1960's bathroom suite was taken from the drive over night. We were expecting a hard job getting it to the tip, but by morning there was no trace of the bathroom smile
A bloke that used to work for us years ago let somebody test drive his Capri 2.8i he was selling, they left him their car keys as security.

They took quite an extended test drive apparently & decided the car wasn't for them when they eventually returned. Shortly after he realised they'd swapped the back axle over!

Clearly you've never used freecycle.. though generally they would ask you to deliver it.........
Yes I have but I've never offered or seen a freecycle collection of vintage grot, delivered or not. I've had 4 bikes from Freecycle, a mate has one good one made from 2 junkers, my Dad has another and yet another went to a mate's before my Dad ended up with that one too. In return I've got rid of an old filing cabinet, some wood, all sorts. Of course people ask for it to be delivered.

I have done quite well out of skips, often at work. Got a Makita 110V circular saw in one, it needed a new moving guard, cost £30 or so, great tool. Having rescued a few bits and pieces off a dead bike in a skip at work the other week, the same skip has since yielded 2 toolboxes. They'll come in handy, after a bit of straightening out.

Cat tree - We needed to upgrade to a more robust one as lard arse Moglet snapped the platform jumping on it. I had taken it outside to the car to disassemble & take to the tip. Went inside to get a spanner, came back & it had gone! 5 minutes at most. Who the juddering F*ck needs a knackered cat tree that is not only broken but probably has enough excess cat fur on it off my cats to make another cat out of it!

Watched someone put out some old carpet next to the bins at 11pm (this was when the bin men were helpful and would take anything).

Within 15 mins one of the neighbours, comes running out lifts the carpet and darts back home. All of the houses on the street were large detached 1 million pound properties. Take all sorts I suppose.

Not particularly interesting but our washing machine went bang just after our first baby was born, having renovated the house and still having an account with the scrappers, I gutted all the motors and copper out of the washing machine and left the shell on the drive.

Went to the shops to buy a new one and by the time we were back it had gone. I can only imagine the expletives that came out of the mouth of thes "do as you likey" when they discovered they'd lifted about 65pence worth of mild steel shell and 15kg of cement ballast with all the good bits gone already.

Surprised it didn't reappear on my drive tbh.

Friend I used to live with at uni once rescued a whole kitchen work top out of a skip that had just been thrown in there during renovations. He turned it into a temporary desk in the house we lived in so he had a large area to do his industrial design and prototyping work. He dismantled it at the end of the year but I have no idea what he did with it!

I use offcuts of kitchen worktops to make shelves in my garage!

Whenever we put a new kitchen into a rental, there always seems to be a bit spare so it seems daft to waste it...

My old Potterton boiler. I replaced it with a nice new A rated Worcester Bosch as the potterton had completely given up. I put it on Ebay as spares and collection only. The buyer kept messing me about with collection times but eventually agreed to collect it during the week when i was at work. He paid via pay pal and i left it in my porch for him to collect. Came home from work and it was gone so assumed he had collected it. Only a day later when he messaged me to say sorry he had'nt been able to make it did i realise someone had pinched it. Probably the local scrap guys who come round sometimes. The buyer did'nt ask for a refund though so i was'nt out of pocket.

I have a CCTV recording of my washing machine being 'recycled' outside my house.

What impressed me was the total absence of sound on a system that could record literally a pin drop.

3am, transit rolls up to my drive, no engine, no lights.

1 dude stays in the van, 1 gets out to watch the street, 1 walks up the drive, lifts the machine (70kg or so), nearly drops it, wanders around with it nearly falling over.

The lookout dude then walks over to help.

In the van, pushed down the road and then round the corner.

Very professional service.

This threads had me in stitches imagining people taking the stuff.

Although as a kid the family was walking down a Street and seen a massive box filled with coat hangers, for free sign. My dad made me carry as many as would fit in my arms.

I've done similar. My folks threw out some old chipboard wardrobes. They have made marvellous boards for the garage loft and got all the crap out of the way. Some of them are now a toolboard above the bench so I know where to look for my spanners.

The bits of old shed have proved to be less useful. I reckon they will end up being chopped up and dropped in my old paint can, sorry, upcycling firepit.

Here's a tip. If you remove your rusty garden gates to sand them down and re-paint, don't just leave them in the front garden over night. They'll be gone in the morning.
Thanks, they look really nice in my garden painted up......smile

An old bed frame - must have been through 3 generations of our family and moved about 10 times before it gave up a couple of years ago.

The frame was all metal with horizontal slats for the bit underneath where the mattress goes - the straw that broke the camels back was one night when Mrs L-F and I were getting down to business, and following a large crash found ourselves lying on the mattress on the floor.

Must have lasted about 15 minutes outside before our local Irish community representative found it.
