We normally have them in one of our barns that's open to the elements, unfortunately this year though a Pigeon also decided to nest in that barn, and the bugger has scared the Swallows away frown

I can sympathise with your stting problem, they plaster everything, advice I ready from the RSPB is to drape a plastic sheet across the beams under the nest, they can still get in around the edges but it catches the crap.
Hopefully ours will return next year, we'll evict the Pigeon.

Had swallows in the car port last year, awesome watching them swoop in and out, not awesome cleaning the epic mountains of st off the cars!

I put a sheet up in the rafters this year to deter them from nesting there, which seems to have worked. They still nest in the gables and next doors sheds but I dont have to clean the car each day... might make a nest box on the outside of the car port for next year.
