Lazy Spa - Hot tub
Discussion
I have a Miami, which I think is the smallest, realistically it's a 2 person, possibly 3, but it wouldn't be great with 4+.
I bought with the same intention of having it to try out and see if we liked it before going for a new one.
I out down some insulating matt on the patio and ran it over last summer. I tended to knock the temperature down to 30 degrees if I knew we weren't using it, then boost it up a few hours before we would be in it. I think my electric bill went up by about £25-30 a month.
I thought it was brilliant but the misses doesn't see the attraction. Haven't set it up this year so far.
Chemicals are easy to keep on top of, just dip check it every couple of days. I think initially you need to shock treat it with chlorine.
I'd still like to get a proper one, or sink mine into the ground somehow where I have a big flower bed.

My sis in law had one and they put it in the conservatory so they could watch eastenders from it.
The house smelt like a swimming pool and it was very very chavvy.
The do live in Harlow to be fair. Albeit a posh bit.
Kids wanted me to set the projector up to show films on the wall of our hot tub gazebo while they stewed. The house smelt like a swimming pool and it was very very chavvy.

After leaving it on from last night to this morning its at 36 degrees, have set it for 40 so will jump in it after work with a beer or 5.
LOL for us 37 is normal 38 occasionally, 40 will have you sweating like a pig. Basically I run it over the summer when the central heating is off and turn it off again for the winter, but usually fire it up over Christmas break.
The children are nagging me to get one of these. My understanding from Amazon is that the Vegas

has been superseded by the St Tropez
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M0QHM8J
Anyone know if that's correct and whether there any decent deals on at the moment - best I've seen is £350?

From reading the question and answer section it says the difference is that the St Tropez keeps heating whilst the air bubbles are on, whereas the Vegas doesn't, so it will drop in temperature slightly. From the description on Amazon..https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0068484UU

You can simultaneously run the Lay-Z-Massage function and the rapid heating system ensuring that optimal relaxation is achieved at all times. This dual operate heating system strikes the perfect blend of warmth and relaxing bubbles.

This is the third year for ours and a few weeks ago we came across the first major issue with these.
Each autumn we clean ours carefully and pack it away in a shed over winter, taped up in the box it came in. This year we came to inflate and fill it again but found that mice had got in; nibbled the lid and the main inner section. Patched the lid OK but there was no way the main inner section pumped up with a ton of water was going to hold a puncture repair reliably.
So £150 for a new inner section plus an industrial patching kit and we're back in the tub. But I've got my doubts about long term now, (which is why I started the wood fired hot-tub thread!)

How noisy are these things either when they're just sat heating, or when you're running the bubbles? I'm very tempted but don't want to upset the neighbours!
It's a quiet enough background hum, not too intrusive. Bubbles are louder which a bassy whooshy whine as it spins up, although I find the bubbles a bit much.dreamer75 said:

Mine was making a rattle/hum which was a bit too noisy, so I opened it up, tightened all the screws and jammed some polystyrene in a section which sorted it out. Now just a quiet hum.LeadFarmer said:
Just noticed that Aldi sometimes have these type of hot tubs available under the Intex brand for £300. Anyone know if these are actually Lay-Z-Spa's under a different badge?
Different manufacturers. Ours is intex, seems ok although our first 1 was delivered with a tiny hole inside and the replacement has developed a couple of pinholes at one of the seams on the outside after a year.Edited by LeadFarmer on Monday 15th May 18:03
Not sure about the lazy spa, the intex comes with an inflatable lid to keep the heat in.
