The steel and enamel tub in the bathroom also works well when it’s pissing rain

We use ours all year round, being in the bathroom where there is central heating and heated floors really helps.

That's very cool!

Nice as that is, isn't it like having a big bath?

Maybe it's just me but the big appeal of the tub is to be able to be outside. In summer I get to watch the bats at dusk and in winter with the snow on the floor it's just great!

As above, that looks very flash but, for me, completely misses the point of a hot tub.

About to start building a replacement cedar tub and it'll be out in the open surrounded by old pine trees well away from the house.

Rain and snow don't make the slightest bit of difference when you're up to your neck in hot water - if anything they add to the atmosphere.

My first trial of my original tub coincided with a cold spell - i'll never forget sitting in my newly built tub, fire crackling away with clouds of steam rising into the - 15c night with a couple of feet of snow all around.

I bet it uses as much electricity as everything else in the house! Electricity bill will double, whatever the ad says..
My arctic spa costs about 50p-75p per day to run. I use it 5/6 times a week mostly after sports and its worth every penny twice over. They aren't expensive to run at all in my view.
Just got a smart meter fitted and the hot tub with my workstation on during the day is costing 11p way cheaper than the lazy spa.
“ The most energy-efficient hot tubs on the market will cost between 75p and £1.00 per day based on these assumptions at current energy tariffs of around 12-13p per kWh. However not all spas are built to the most efficient energy standards.”

Each to their own, but around £50 a month is realistic electricity cost for the average hot tub
Mine was around that figure, I gave it away a couple of years ago to a friend of a friend as was getting a bit costly to upkeep.
The new owner spent around £600 on a repair & new cover @ 8 years old & was happy with it.
He paid the removal & transport costs!
Was fun for the first year or two, but wasn’t using it enough to be worthwhile for us in the end.

I’ve had tubs for probably close to 15 years
I love them. Love being outdoors in them. Its relaxing.
Just now i’ve got a lay z spa hawaii but have had a proper 4 pump 76 jet all singing & dancing ... lost it in a divorce.
My hawaii does a great job considering along with the paris it replaced. My 5 year old loves it also & when he gets bigger i’ll venture back into the solid tubs.
Dont care what it costs daily. Its a bit of fun & happiness.
You cant put a price on happiness

Who's setting up for Christmas day dip?

Fingers crossed it snows, that would be a nice hot tub dip!

1c here and I'm trying to reduce loss whilst filling up from the boiler.

Yes, ours is currently at 40c and ready ... if it snows tonight I’ll be in.

40deg is melting territory!

Though it gives you a fair bit of time before it gets a bit tepid. These sort of temps it can struggle to maintain temp with the top off.

Get the bubbles going, it soon drops a degree or two!

Ours has been in use the past 3 or 4 weeks.....lovely on a crisp evening. Considering an awning for when it is raining, just to cover half of it......

Mind you, we have the Japanese tub inside too....not getting so much use, but looks cool!

Hello - sorry to revive an old thread, but I’ve read all 35 pages and can’t find the answer. We have just got a lay z spa Maldives and are experimenting with the heating / settings. The first week we left at 38 degrees all week and the electric bill was crazy (didn’t mind as we used daily), week after we dropped to 25 degrees at night and turned up the morning we wanted to use and overall it seemed more efficient. This week we won’t use at all so I’ve turned off the heat and just left the filer running and strangely it’s still at 30 degrees. Can someone tell me if the filter alone creates more heat than no filer on?
Thanks

Does the water feel like it’s 30c warm to the touch? I found that when I had one of these the water in the heating element wasn’t circulated with the water pumped through the filter. The temp then read very optimistic, however when you turned the heating up and it started to actually pump, there was a sudden drop on the temperature reading.

Give it a try.

Very interesting! Not the tub water is certainly not the “correct” temperature! So given you used to have one would you leave the filter running without the heat, or just let it sit (with the chemicals maintained) until we next use?

Any suggestions for a mat for our pool (we're too cheap for a hottub!)? It's 10ft and to go on the patio, with rough slabs, so I'd like to protect it.

Looking at interlocking foam pads and it's not cheap! Thought someone with a laz-y spa or similar would have faced this issue.

Have you looked at kids interlocking mats? There fairly cheap and available in Aldi/Lidl/B&M.

I'm on a hot tub group on Facebook and have seen people do this, so there is potential this may work.
