Hey folks our driveway has no apron between the tarmac and the currently compacted rough gravel drive / track!

The tramac is now breaking up about 2 ft into the road and is getting very rough at the road edge (the drive gate opening is about 14ft). How much ballpark would it cost to tidy up the edge and create an new apron about 3 to 5 ft wide?

Do I need to speak to the council about someone tidying up the edge of the road where the tarmac is breaking up?

Who owns the land between the gate and the tarmac - I'm guessing that it is you, as there is some sort of kerbstone to the right of the gate (when looking from the road)?
Either way, it will require you or your contractor contacting the local authority to make sure that they are happy with what you plan to do, and how it interacts with public land (the road).
As this looks to be in a rural location, your local authority may have a different policy to that of an urban area. where I live there are regulations about the slope angle and drainage requirements - these may or may not apply in your case.
